In a bit of deja vu, the Waukon football team’s 10th consecutive berth in the Class 2A State Play-Offs matched the Indians with a Bellevue team they had also opened up last season’s State Play-Offs with. In further deja vu fashion, the grid Tribe handled those visiting Comets with relative ease in their opening-round match-up once again Friday, October 23, securing seven turnovers and building a 24-0 headstart on the way to a 46-12 victory and advancement to the second round of postseason play for a second consecutive season.
For the second consecutive season, the Indians will now advance to the second round of the Class 2A Play-Offs, but will remain at home this Friday, October 30, beginning at 7 p.m., to host Wilton, a team coming off a 39-3 first-round play-off victory at home over Anamosa. The eighth-rated Beavers were the runner-up team in District 6 behind seventh-rated Mid-Prairie, who handed them their lone district loss, 20-19, in mid-September. Wilton’s only other loss on the season came to undefeated and Class 1A top-rated Iowa City Regina, 36-0, to open this season.
