Sixth Annual Big Pumpkin Contest to be held this Sunday

The sixth annual Big Pumpkin contest is scheduled for this Sunday, September 29 in Waukon. The event, which takes place at the Allamakee County Fairgrounds, will begin with weigh-in at 9:30 a.m., with those big pumpkins being on display that day and this year’s winners being crowned at a 12:30 p.m. awards ceremony.

Second annual Fields of Faith event scheduled for Oct. 9

Students, parents and community members are invited to join thousands of others on athletic fields all across the nation Wednesday, October 9 to share their Christian faith with each other during the eighth annual national Fields of Faith event. Although in existence nationwide for several years, the local Fields of Faith event in Waukon is being held for just its second year that same evening at the Waukon High School football field after a successful inaugural event last year that drew more than 400 local people.

Tickets still available for Women's Health Day

The Auxiliary of Veterans Memorial Hospital together with Elliott Jewelers of Waukon will be hosting its ninth annual Women’s Health Day wellness event and luncheon Tuesday, September 24 at the Waukon Banquet Center. All ages are invited to attend this educational event, beginning at 11 a.m. with a wellness fair offering a variety of free health tests and information, and a salad luncheon and program held from Noon to 1 p.m.

Area school board directors re-elected, NICC levy renewed by low September 10 turn-out

A small turn-out of Allamakee County voters returned several school board representatives back to their respective seats during the Tuesday, September 10 School Board Election. Those same voters also overwhelmingly approved Public Measure Z, the 20-1/4 cent levy to support Northeast Iowa Community College.

Search for Waukon man ends with unfortunate results

Allamakee County Sheriff Clark Mellick reported that the body of Don Angel of Waukon, age 83, was found Thursday morning, September 12 by a person walking a dog on the walking trails north of Waukon in the Makee Manor Conservation Park.
