Split of home doubleheader with Oelwein accounts for Waukon softball team’s lone, high-powered win in six games this past week


First-time homers help Tribe to win ... Mother Nature made this past week’s already busy schedule a little less busy for the Waukon softball team, as the Lady Indians had their Decorah Tournament scheduled for Saturday, June 26 rained out. Already playing a schedule of six games in five nights that included a pair of home doubleheaders, all of those six games being in Northeast Iowa Conference (NEIC) play, the softball Tribe was able to put just one of those in the win column.

After playing through back-to-back undefeated weeks of competition to piece together a 14-game winning streak, the Kee baseball team ended up being tripped up in three of its five games played this past week, not only snapping that win streak but also having its undefeated Upper Iowa Conference (UIC) season come to an end as well. In suffering their first losses in more than two weeks, the Hawks were also dealing with the loss of junior catcher Buddy Hill to injury, with a timetable for his return not being known for sure at this point.

Waukon softball team ends streak of one-run losses, NEIC winless skid of two seasons with sweep of New Hampton during 3-4 week


Big contributions in three wins ... Kee softball team’s 3-3 week includes first UIC losses in addition to handing rated Turkey Valley its first UIC loss

Recording a win and a loss in each of its four days of competition this past week, the Kee softball team’s even week of results included the Hawks’ first Upper Iowa Conference (UIC) losses of the season but also involved one of their UIC wins resulting in Class 1A 13th-rated Turkey Valley’s first UIC loss of the season as well. The Lady Hawks first split a doubleheader at Central Elkader Monday, June 14, winning game one by a 15-4 count before falling by a 15-5 result in the nightcap, and also split another UIC double-dip at home against that ranked Turkey Valley squad Wednesday, June 16, winning game one by an 8-5 tally before falling in game two by a 4-1 final result.

Kee baseball team puts together a second consecutive undefeated week to extend winning streak to 14 games and remain perfect in UIC

A second consecutive undefeated week on the diamond this past week of six consecutive games has the Kee baseball team in the midst of a 14-game winning streak and still sitting atop the Upper Iowa Conference (UIC) standings with a yet perfect record of 10-0. That unblemished week began with four more additions to the Hawks’ perfect UIC campaign thus far in 2021, sweeping a pair of games at Turkey Valley by scores of 5-0 and 17-2 Monday, June 14 before defeating Postville at home Tuesday, June 15 by a 35-1 final result in three innings and then winning at MFL/MarMac Thursday, June 17 by a mercy-rule final of 10-0 in six innings. The Kee boys continued their winning ways by sweeping two games at Gladbrook-Reinbeck Saturday, June 19, first downing the host school by a 13-0 final result in five innings before handing Class 1A top-10 rated Janesville its first loss of the season, 11-3.

Waukon baseball team alternates wins and losses during an even result in past week’s four games, including NEIC split at Crestwood

The Waukon baseball team alternated wins and losses in an even week of four games this past week, ending what had amounted to a five-game Northeast Iowa Conference (NEIC) losing streak while also extending a non-conference win to a fourth consecutive game. The Indians began the week with a 14-8 win at Osage Tuesday, June 15 before splitting a NEIC doubleheader at Crestwood Wednesday, June 16 with a 7-4 loss followed by a 4-3 triumph. The Tribe ended the week with an 8-4 loss at Charles City Friday, June 18.

The Kee baseball team played its way to an undefeated week during a heavy schedule of eight games this past week, with more than half of those victories coming in Upper Iowa Conference (UIC) play to keep the Hawks’ UIC campaign unblemished at this point in the season. That continued UIC perfection included a Monday, June 7 home doubleheader sweep of Class 1A 13th-rated South Winneshiek by scores of 7-0 and 5-3, a 16-1 win at Clayton Ridge Thursday, June 10 and another home doubleheader sweep of MFL/MarMac, 13-0 in five innings and 9-8, Friday, June 11 in a date rescheduled from May 27. The Kee diamond dwellers also worked in a 7-3 home win over Crestwood Tuesday, June 8 before closing out their winning week with a sweep of two more non-conference games in the Cedar River Classic Saturday, June 12, winning at Charles City by a 6-2 result and also posting a 7-4 victory over St. Ansgar in nine innings.

The Waukon baseball team worked a single non-conference win into this past week in the midst of a trio of Northeast Iowa Conference (NEIC) losses. The Indians opened the week falling to Oelwein in an extra-inning heartbreaker, 4-3 in eight innings, Tuesday, June 8 before securing their week’s lone victory, 15-8 at Turkey Valley Wednesday, June 9. The diamond Tribe finished its week with a pair of early-ending losses at home to NEIC-unbeaten Decorah by scores of 20-0 and 16-5 Friday, June 11.

Holding a 7-7 overall season record that now includes a 2-6 mark in NEIC play, the Tribe was next scheduled to play at Osage Tuesday, June 15 and in a doubleheader at Crestwood Wednesday, June 16 before traveling to Charles City Friday, June 18. The Indians will then host Waverly-Shell Rock Monday, June 21 and Oelwein for a doubleheader Wednesday, June 23 before playing at Decorah Friday, June 25.

The Kee softball team played its way to an undefeated week of competition this past week, keeping its Upper Iowa Conference (UIC) season record unblemished with a sweep of a pair of UIC foes, both in doubleheader action. The Lady Hawks first claimed a doubleheader at MFL/MarMac Monday, June 7 by scores of 7-2  and 6-4 in eight innings before doing likewise at home against Clayton Ridge Wednesday, June 9 by final results of 11-4 and 18-15.

Waukon softball team remains in search of season’s first NEIC win, plays to a pair of weekend Classic wins during 2-4 week

The Waukon softball team won two of its six games played this past week, saving its best for last in posting those wins in the Lady Indians’ final competition date of a fairly busy week. Still in search of their first win in Northeast Iowa Conference play this season, the diamond Tribe came close once again in falling at Oelwein Monday, June 7 by just a 13-11 result, but then fell victim at home to Decorah in a doubleheader Wednesday, June 9 by scores of 21-1 and 11-0, both in five innings. The softball Indians finished their week at the Riceville Tournament Saturday, June 12, winning two of three games played, including victories over St. Ansgar, 7-4, and Riceville, 9-3, but also falling to Hudson by a 4-3 result.
