Junior Dalton Dibert claims Upper Iowa Conference high jump crown

The Kee boys track team brought its 2021 regular season competition schedule to a close this past week with a pair of meets. The track Hawks finished in fifth place at their final invitational meet hosted by MFL/MarMac at Monona Monday, May 3 before placing sixth in the final nine-team Upper Iowa Conference (UIC) Meet standings in that annually scheduled meet hosted by North Fayette Valley in West Union Thursday, May 6, crowning one Upper Iowa Conference event champion along the way.

The Hawks will now prepare for their Class 1A State Qualifying Meet hosted by Edgewood-Colesburg this Thursday, May 13. Details of those postseason possibilities for the Kee track boys can be found elsewhere within the May 12, 2021 print edition and e-edition of The Standard.

The Orange Crush Wrestling Club recently completed a successful season with four wrestlers claiming top-five finishes at their respective State AAU (Amateur Athletic Union) Tournament competitions. The Orange Crush Wrestling Club is coached by Matt Pladsen, who is pictured with each of the recent AAU State-placewinning wrestlers. In its only competition of this past week, the Waukon girls golf team came out on top of a Northeast Iowa Conference triangular event that involved 18 holes of competition at Crestwood Monday, May 3. The Indians turned in a team total of 388 strokes, finishing well ahead of both the host Cadets and their 434, as well as Decorah’s team total of 487 strokes.

The golf Tribe is next scheduled to make up part of an earlier season postponement by hosting Charles City Monday, May 10 before playing in its Northeast Iowa Conference Tournament at New Hampton Thursday, May 13. The Lady Indians will then play in their Class 2A First Round Regional Tournament against seven other teams Monday, May 17 at Clermont, with details of those postseason possibilities included in the May 12, 2021 print edition and e-edition of The Standard.

The Waukon boys golf team played host to a pair of Northeast Iowa Conference (NEIC) teams this past week, being most gracious hosts by allowing both visiting squads to take home victories from those dual meet events. The Indians first fell at home to Crestwood Monday, April 26 by a 188-178 final result and then suffered the same fate against New Hampton at home Friday, April 30 by a 176-163 tally.

The Indians were next scheduled to play at Oelwein Monday, May 3 before hosting Charles City Friday, May 7. The golf Tribe will then prepare for its Class 2A Sectional Tournament Friday, May 14 at Pleasant Valley Sports Club in Clermont beginning at 10 a.m.

The Waukon girls track team was able to pull off double duty this past week, hosting its own home invitational before pulling out a meet win in Monona. The Lady Indians finished fifth in the seven-team field of their own Indian Relays Tuesday, April 27 before edging out Central Elkader by a single point at the MFL/MarMac Invitational just two days later, Thursday, April 29.

The Lady Indians were next scheduled to compete Monday, May 3 at Edgewood-Colesburg but had that meet canceled due to rain. They will now compete in the Northeast Iowa Conference Meet Thursday, May 6 at Decorah. The track Tribe will then prepare for its Thursday, May 13 Class 2A State Qualifying Meet at Jesup, details of which can be found in the May 5, 2021 print edition and e-edition of The Standard.

The Kee girls track team competed in a full schedule with a team at less than full strength this past week due to illness and injury. The result of those efforts left the Lady Hawks in third place at the Clayton Ridge Invitational Tuesday, April 27 and in fourth place at the MFL/MarMac Invitational Thursday, April 29.

The Lady Hawks were next scheduled to compete at Edgewood-Colesburg Monday, May 3 but had that meet canceled by rainy weather. The Waukon boys track team had just one competition on its schedule this past week, but certainly made the most of it by bringing home a win from the Warrior Relays hosted by Wapsie Valley High School at Oelwein Monday, April 26. The Indians recorded three each of event wins and runner-up finishes to tally 115 points and edge out the team victory by just two points.

The Waukon boys golf team ended up splitting a pair of meets this past week, opening the week with a win and ending it on the other side of that result. The golf Tribe had a Monday, April 19 dual meet at Decorah postponed by cold, windy weather to Friday, April 23, where the Indians fell by a 393-368 final result in a rare 18-hole match-up. Prior to that loss, the Indians extended their win streak to a third consecutive opponent with a 183-198 home win over Caledonia, MN.

The Indians were next scheduled to host Crestwood Monday, April 26 before hosting New Hampton Friday, April 30. The golf Tribe will then play at Oelwein Monday, May 3 before hosting Charles City Friday, May 7 and then preparing for its Class 2A Sectional Tournament Friday, May 14 at Pleasant Valley Sports Club in Clermont beginning at 10 a.m., details of which will be published after they are fully complete.

The Waukon boys track team wrapped up its home schedule Friday, April 23 when the track Tribe hosted six other teams at its annually scheduled Indian Relays. Winning four events and finishing second in three more - all in individual efforts, the Indians were able to rack up 137 team points and finish second in their final home meet of the season, with this season’s five seniors, Konnor Krambeer, Sawyer Krueger, Ryan Lubahn, John O’Neill and Creed Welch, each competing one final time at their home track and field venue.

Having a Monday, April 19 meet at Decorah canceled due to weather, the Indians were next scheduled to compete Monday, April 26 at Oelwein and again Monday, May 3 at New Hampton before preparing for their Northeast Iowa Conference Meet Thursday, May 6 at Decorah. The track Tribe will then prepare for its Thursday, May 13 Class 2A State Qualifying Meet at Jesup.

In its only scheduled competition of this past week, the Kee boys track team hosted its only home meet of the season Thursday, April 22, welcoming three other teams to its home track and field facility in Lansing. The Hawks made themselves right at home in the field events, sweeping the gold medals in all four of those competitions, and also added a trio of runner-up finishes in other events to lead the way to 61 team points and a third-place finish at the meet.

The Hawks are next scheduled to take part in the Clayton Ridge Invitational  in Guttenberg Thursday, April 29. The Kee boys are then slated to compete at the MFL/MarMac Invitational in Monona Monday, May 3 before taking part in the Upper Iowa Conference Meet Thursday, May 6 at North Fayette Valley in West Union. The Hawks will then prepare for their Class 1A State Qualifying Meet at Edgewood-Colesburg Thursday, May 13.
