Waukon girls basketball team extends current victory streak to eight games with home wins over Clayton Ridge and New Hampton, and at Charles City

The Waukon girls basketball team continued its recent winning ways with another undefeated week to its credit, adding three more games to a now eight-game winning streak. That latest string of success began with a 50-28 home win over Clayton Ridge Monday, January 25 before handling New Hampton at home as well, 52-30, Tuesday, January 26. The bucket Tribe wrapped up the week with a 57-36 victory at Charles City Friday, January 29.

Kee basketball boys end winless streak of nearly two decades vs. MFL/MarMac, complete sweep of Central and come up a bit short late at UIC-undefeated NFV

The Kee boys basketball team was within one quarter of playing to an undefeated week, winning two of its three games this past week. The Hawks opened the week avenging an early-season loss to MFL/MarMac and snapping a losing streak to the Bulldogs that dated back to 2002 with a 67-62 road triumph Tuesday, January 26. They closed out the week with a split of two consecutive nights of competition, finishing a regular season sweep of Central Elkader with a 65-40 road win Thursday, January 28 before coming up just a quarter short at Upper Iowa Conference-undefeated North Fayette Valley, 60-50, Friday, January 29.

Waukon wrestling team comes up shy of the win column in final home double-dual and in five additional bouts at Denver Dual Tournament

The Waukon wrestling team returned to competition late this past week after a two-week absence from competition due to weather postponements a week earlier. That return to action amounted to seven dual meets for the mat Tribe within 48 hours, starting with a double-dual loss at home Thursday, January 21 to both Charles City, 60-24, and Caledonia, MN, 56-18. The Indians then competed at the Denver Duals Tournament Saturday, January 23, falling in all five of those meets by scores of 57-20 to New Hampton/Turkey Valley, 40-39 to North Linn, 45-30 to North Fayette Valley, 60-24 to the host Denver squad and 40-34 to Dyersville Beckman.

The wrestling Tribe is next scheduled to wrap up its regular season dual meet schedule Thursday, January 28 at MFL/MarMac before wrestling in the Northeast Iowa Conference Tournament Saturday, January 30 at Decorah. The Indians will then prepare for their Class 2A Sectional Tournament at Decorah Saturday, February 6.

Waukon boys basketball team a few points shy of undefeated week, wins big at MFL/MarMac and snaps 25-game W-SR skid, but streak ends at Beckman

The Waukon boys basketball team came up just shy of a second consecutive undefeated week, adding its first two games of this past three-game week in three consecutive nights to what became a six-game win streak before having that winning stretch snapped by a 70-65 loss at Dyersville Beckman Saturday, January 23. Prior to the end of that streak, the Indians posted considerable victories on the two consecutive nights prior, blasting MFL/MarMac on the Bulldogs’ home court, 86-55, Thursday, January 21 before snapping what had amounted to a 25-game losing streak to Waverly-Shell Rock spanning 12 seasons with a 76-68 home win over the Go-Hawks Friday, January 22.

Kee girls basketball team splits pair of UIC match-ups

The Kee girls basketball team split its pair of games this past week in battles with fellow Upper Iowa Conference (UIC) teams near each end of the league standings at this point in the season. The Lady Hawks opened the past week with a 66-22 tripling up at winless Postville Tuesday, January 19 before falling for the second time this season to recently-ranked Turkey Valley by a 51-38 final margin at home Friday, January 22.

Now holding an even 7-7 overall record, 6-5 in Upper Iowa Conference play, the Kee girls were next scheduled to play at MFL/MarMac Tuesday, January 26, make up a January 15 postponed date at Central Elkader Thursday, January 28 and play at UIC-undefeated North Fayette Valley Friday, January 29 before returning home Tuesday, February 2 against Clayton Ridge. The Lady Hawks will then host South Winneshiek Friday, February 5 before wrapping up their regular season with a home non-conference date against East Buchanan Monday, February 8.

Waukon girls basketball team pulls out overtime victory, 44-42, at Riceville

The Waukon girls basketball team had just one game on its schedule this past week, but what a game it turned out to be. The Lady Indians traveled to Riceville Saturday, January 23 to take on a Wildcat team that held a 14-2 season record that included an eight-game win streak, with the Indians putting an end to that streak but needing an overtime period to do so, 44-42. Defense was the name of the game in this rare Saturday match-up, as the Indians were held to their lowest four-quarter point total of the season in playing to a 34-34 scoreboard knot at the end of regulation play, with the only other games where they were held to as few as 44 points total this season both being losses to Class 4A seventh-rated Waverly-Shell Rock.

The Waukon girls basketball team played its way to an undefeated week in a busy three-game slate this past week that took them on the road and back home, and in and out of the Northeast Iowa Conference. That week’s worth of wins improved the Tribe’s current win streak to four games and started with consecutive nights on the road that included a 59-51 triumph at previously undefeated North Fayette Valley Monday, January 11 followed by a Tuesday, January 12 win at Crestwood, 64-40. The Indians wrapped up the week with a 55-23 home win over Oelwein Friday, January 15.

The Waukon boys basketball team played a busy week of three games this past week and put all three games in the win column by increasingly convincing results to extend what has now amounted to a four-game win streak. The Indians opened the week pulling out a 67-64 victory at home in overtime against a previously undefeated North Fayette Valley team Monday, January 11 before notching another close victory at home, 61-53, Tuesday, January 12 over a Crestwood team that had beaten them earlier in the season in another close battle. The bucket Tribe wrapped up its week-long success with a 72-37 road win at Oelwein Friday, January 15.

Waukon boys bowling team wins at Waterloo Columbus, 2361-2203, girls have late comeback fall shy, 2095-2128

The Waukon girls and boys bowling teams hit the road for the first time in the new year and came home with a split of their meet results at Waterloo Columbus Friday, January 15, coming within less than 35 pins of recording a complete meet sweep of the host Sailors. The Indian girls fell just shy of that sweeping effort, having a Baker round comeback surge not be enough to avoid the short end of a 2095-2128 final result against their Columbus counterparts, while the Indian boys took control of their dual early before holding on late for their second victory of the season, 2361-2203.

The Kee girls basketball team played its way through its busiest week, by far, of this season’s schedule, with four games in a span of six days, and also played to its most successful week of this season, by far, by putting all four of those games in the win column, snapping what had amounted to a three-game losing streak that dated back to mid-December. The undefeated past week all came against Upper Iowa Conference opponents, starting with consecutive road wins at Clayton Ridge, 40-32, Monday, January 4 and at South Winneshiek, 50-27, Tuesday, January 5 before wrapping up at home with their highest scoring totals of the season, a 59-35 win over West Central Friday, January 8 and a 64-30 triumph over Postville Saturday, January 9.
