Honored as Parade Marshal for Eitzen Lions Family Fun Fest ...

John Weymiller, current resident at Thornton Manor in Lansing and long-time resident of Eitzen, MN, was asked by the Eitzen Lions Club to be the Parade Marshal for the Eitzen Lions Family Fun Fest that took place during the Fourth of July weekend in Eitzen, MN. Weymiller, age 91, is pictured above in the 1912 Model T Touring Ford owned by Bryan and Lori Ann St. Mary that he was privileged enough to ride in while being honored throughout the parade. Weymiller, himself, was a collector of Model T Fords, and has been a member of the Eitzen Lions Club for over 40 years.

Weymiller also claims the honor of being the “second oldest man living in Eitzen,” and says he is humbled by being asked to serve as this year’s Parade Marshal. “I am deeply moved and highly honored,” he said. “I met so many nice people, and old friends greeted me along the route. The old Ford performed ‘flawlessly,’ especially since it is over 10 years older than I am!”

Waukon baseball team has 2021 season brought to an end with district split that includes 9-7 triumph over Columbus in 11 innings, 3-2 loss at eighth-rated Jesup

Three-hit night helps them advance ... Waukon baseball senior left fielder Konnor Krambeer drives a pitch into the outfield for one of his three hits in the Indians’ 9-7 district semifinals victory in 11 innings over Waterloo Columbus Tuesday, July 13 at Jesup. Krambeer collected a double and two singles to drive in two runs and score the go-ahead run in that marathon triumph, and also swatted a single in three at-bats in the final game of his high school career, the Tribe’s 3-2 district finals loss at eighth-rated Jesup Saturday, July 17. View and find out how to purchase this photo and more by clicking on the Photo Galleries link on this webpage.

The Waukon baseball team had its 2021 campaign brought to a close this past week with a split of two Class 2A District 8 Tournament games, but not before venturing farther than any diamond Tribe has in postseason play since 2011, when the Indians made their last State Tournament bid, and providing Waukon baseball fans with some thrilling memories and hope along the way. After posting a 10-0 first-round district triumph over a winless Postville squad more than a week ago, this year’s postseason surge continued against two much stronger squads in games played at Jesup, the baseball Tribe first waging war against Waterloo Columbus (21-12) Tuesday, July 13 to pull out a 9-7 triumph in 11 innings before then battling eighth-rated Jesup (25-3) right to the very end of just a 3-2 loss at the home of the highly-regarded J-Hawks Saturday, July 17 to have the 2021 diamond season brought to an end.

Kee baseball team claims Class 1A District Championship, advances to first Substate berth since 2017 with wins over Wapsie Valley and South Winn

Championship chat ... Members of the Kee baseball team gather in the outfield as the scoreboard in the background at Shooky Fink Field tells the tale of the Hawks’ 4-2 win at home over South Winneshiek Saturday, July 17 in the Class 1A District 4 Championship game. Following the Hawks’ 3-1 home victory over Wapsie Valley in Class 1A district semifinals play Tuesday, July 13, the Hawks were matched up with their fellow Upper Iowa Conference season champions in that district title bout, with the Kee boys benefiting from a two-out South Winneshiek error in the bottom of the sixth inning to score two runs that proved to be the difference in the game’s final score. The district championship victory is the first claiming of that title for a Kee baseball team since the 2017 season and advanced the Hawks to the Class 1A Substate 2 Championship game scheduled for Tuesday, July 20 at Charles City at 7 p.m. against Northwood-Kensett, with the winner of that substate contest advancing on to the Class 1A State Tournament to be played at Merchants Park in Carroll Monday, July 26 through Thursday, July 29. Kee baseball’s last State Tournament qualification took place during the 2011 season. Photo by Danielle Potter.

The Kee baseball team’s postseason path would end up crossing this past week with a pair of teams the Hawks had fallen to in back-to-back games nearly three weeks earlier. Fortunately, Kee’s diamond dwellers would avenge both of those regular season losses with a pair of two-run triumphs at home that have now pushed the Hawks to their first District Championship and Substate berth since the 2017 season.
