Obituaries are published in The Standard for a $45 fee and can be brought to the office at 15 First Street NW in Waukon, mailed to PO Box 286, Waukon IA 52172, or e-mailed to news@waukonstandard.com. Photos may be included for an additional charge of $15 (additonal photos are also $15). Obituaries of excessive length (longer than our single-column length of 15.5") will also incur an additional charge of $11/column inch for the content measuring longer than our 15.5-inch column length. Jeremy Johnson

Jeremy J. Johnson, 48, of Waukon died Sunday, August 27, 2023 at his home. A prayer service was held Tuesday, September 5 at Martin - Grau Funeral Home in Waukon with Fr. John Moser officiating. Private family graveside services were held at Oakland Cemetery, Waukon.

Jeremy Joe Johnson was born September 29, 1974 in Waukon, the son of Virgil and Kathryn “Kay” (Cunningham) Johnson. He was baptized and confirmed at St. Patrick Catholic Church. Jeremy attended St. Patrick Catholic School, graduated from Waukon High School in 1993, and attended Vermilion Community College in Ely, MN, where he received a degree in forestry.

Jeremy worked as an independent carpenter for area contractors for several years. He was very instrumental in starting Sportsmen’s Unlimited in Waukon, which his brother, Justin, currently owns and operates.

Jay Schon

Jay S. Schon, 69, of Waukon died Tuesday, August 29, 2023 at Gundersen Lutheran Medical Center in La Crosse, WI. Memorial services were held Saturday, September 2 at First Baptist Church in Waukon with Pastor Duane Smith officiating.

Robert "Rip" Reinke

Robert P. “Rip” Reinke, 78, of rural New Albin passed away Monday, August 28, 2023 at Gundersen-Tweeten Care Center in Spring Grove, MN. Funeral services were held Friday, September 1 at St. John’s UCC (Wheatland Church). Pastor Michael McCann officiated and burial followed in the church cemetery.

Robert Paul “Rip” Reinke was born May 18, 1945 in La Crosse, WI at St. Anne’s Hospital to Henry and Irma (Kruse) Reinke. He was a tiny baby that fit in a shoebox and was kept warm behind the wood stove. It’s been a standing joke that his mother wanted to name him Romain - thank goodness his dad won that argument.

Robert "Jim" Hegeman

Robert James “Jim” Hegeman, 76, passed away peacefully August 19, 2023 in the presence of family in Redwood City, CA. Jim chose participation in the Stanford Brain Donation Program and cremation. Ashes are to be distributed at a later date.

Diane Seitz

Diane Marie Seitz, 68, of Lansing died Saturday, August 26, 2023 at her home surrounded by family. Services for close family and friends will be held Tuesday, August 29 at 11 a.m. at Thornburg-Grau Funeral Home in Lansing with burial immediately following at Oak Hill Cemetery. A public Celebration of Life will be held from 1-5 p.m. Tuesday at TJ Hunters in Lansing.

Diane Marie Seitz, the daughter of LaVern and Florence (Sudol) Christoffer, was born July 31, 1955 in Waterloo. Diane graduated from Kee High School in Lansing in 1973. April 20, 1974, Diane married Roger Seitz at the Our Saviors Lutheran Church in Lansing and had two children, Tony and Terry. Roger passed away June 8, 1984.

Diane worked at the Learning Tree Daycare and enjoyed spending time with her many “daycare kids” and watching them grow over the years. Diane also worked at Blumenthal Lansing Company, retiring in 2016.

Grant Hagen

Grant Lewis Hagen, 81, of Marion joined his Savior in glory Tuesday, August 22, 2023 at Linn Manor in Marion. A Funeral Service was held Monday, August 28 at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service in Marion with burial directly after at Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery in Cedar Rapids.

Grant was born February 1, 1942 in Waukon, the son of Grant Marcus and Leonora Constance (Anderson) Hagen. He was a graduate of Waukon High School and went on to attend Luther College. Grant came to know the Lord as his personal Savior March 31, 1968.

Katrinka Sieber

Katrinka Sieber was born Katrinka VanWagenen May 27, 1935 in Madison, WI. She passed away August 6, 2023, at the age of 88, in Rancho Palos Verdes, CA.

She is survived by her daughter, Anne Collingwood; Anne’s fiancé, Paul Tjostem; her son, Hans Sieber, and his wife, Julie McCrae; and her five grandchildren, Sean, Logan, Joey, Theo and Nick. Katrinka will be fondly remembered by her nephews, Chris, Mark, Matthew, Greg, Jeff and their families.

Katrinka was preceded in death by her husband, John Sieber; her mother, Hazel Van Wagenen; her father, Howard Van Wagenen; and her brother, Peter Van Wagenen.

Katrinka received her BS degree in Music from the University of Wisconsin and an MA degree in Library Science, also from the University of Wisconsin. Katrinka married John Sieber in 1960 and they were happily married for 54 years.

Edwin Zoll

Edwin F. Zoll, age 74, of Macclenny, FL passed away Wednesday, August 16, 2023 at Community Hospice Care Center for Caring at St. Vincent’s Medical Center in Jacksonville, FL. A Celebration of Life will be announced once all the details have been finalized.

Edwin was born Thursday, July 14, 1949 in Waukon to Mary (O’Malley) and James Zoll and had lived in Baker County, FL since 1985. He taught advanced math at Baker County High School for 23 years before he retired in 2006. Young at heart, he was a gentleman who enjoyed being outdoors, hiking, taking care of his various animals, or pursuing intellectual stimulation through puzzles, crosswords and chess. His generous and easy going nature made him a great friend.

Edwin was preceded in death by his parents. Survivors include his devoted wife of 51 years, Alice Zoll of Macclenny, FL; his brothers, Joe Zoll of Cedar Rapids and Mike Zoll of Guttenburg; and his sister, Lisa Dodds (John) of Dubuque.

Harry Brickman

Harry L. Brickman, 94, of Waukon died Friday, August 11, 2023 at Veterans Memorial Hospital in Waukon. Funeral services will be held Friday, August 18 at 10 a.m. at Old East Paint Creek Lutheran Church in rural Waterville with Pastor Ken Kimball officiating. Burial will be at Garden of Memories in Waterloo Friday at approximately 2:30 p.m. Friends may greet the family from 4-7 p.m. Thursday, August 17 at Martin - Grau Funeral Home in Waukon.

Harry Lee Brickman was born November 27, 1928 in Oelwein, the son of Robert and Laura (Huebner) Brickman. He attended Fairbank schools and farmed with his parents. May 28, 1950, Harry married LaVon Linda Linder at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Fairbank. They made their home in Evansdale and for 37 years, Harry drove truck for Rath Packing Company, retiring in 1985. In 1992, he and LaVon moved to Harpers Ferry, and then to Waukon in 2015.

Donna Shuler

Donna Ruth Shuler died August 5, 2023 at her home in Soldotna, AK surrounded by family. Services were held at Kenai Bible Church in Kenai, AK Saturday, August 12. Arrangements were made by Peninsula Memorial Chapel in Kenai, AK.

Donna was born February 13, 1933 in Waukon to Melvin J. and Ruth (Selberg) Anderson. Donna grew up as the oldest of nine children. Her mothering skills started early as she was the primary caregiver for her siblings after her father died.

Donna loved children. She hoped to train to be a teacher, but health issues prevented this. Donna worked with children in residential treatment homes before her marriage.

Donna married Lyle Shuler July 3, 1959 and had four children (Mark, Carol, Gordon and Joyce) and two stepchildren (Michael and David). Donna’s family was very important to her, and she especially enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
