Milton Staggemeyer

Milton Staggemeyer, 78, of Eitzen, MN passed away Tuesday, April 9, 2013 at Tweeten Lutheran Health Care Center, Spring Grove, MN. Funeral services were held Saturday, April 13 at St. Luke’s United Church of Christ in Eitzen, MN. Rev. Kent A. Meyer, Ph.D., and Rev. Debra A. Meyer officiated. Burial was in St. Luke’s North Cemetery.
Milton was born March 29, 1935 in Eitzen, MN to Louis H. and Flora (Kumpf) Staggemeyer. He was baptized and confirmed at St. Luke’s United Church of Christ and attended elementary school, both in Eitzen, MN. February 20, 1955, Milton married Evelyn Wenig at St. John’s Methodist Church in Dorchester.
Milton lived and worked in the Eitzen, MN area his entire life. He worked at the Eitzen Locker for seven years. He and Evelyn then owned and operated Staggemeyer Grocery Store for 39 years and also owned Staggemeyer Insurance Agency for 25 years. In addition, he was a member of the Eitzen Fire Department for 23 years and served as Chief for 11 years. Milton was instrumental in starting the fire district and also the Tri-County Firefighter’s Association. He also served on the Eitzen City Council for 16 years and he was a charter member of the Eitzen Lion’s Club, where he received several awards, including the Melvin Jones Fellow Award.
Milton was a lifetime member of St. Luke’s United Church of Christ and he served on several church committees. He enjoyed hunting, golfing and playing cards. Milton loved spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
Survivors include his wife, Evelyn, of Eitzen, MN; four children, Jean (Greg) Rea of Lansing, Bradley (Kristy) Staggemeyer of Carlinville, IL, Julie (Neal) Luttchens of Caledonia, MN and Mark (Cathy) Staggemeyer of Eitzen, MN; 12 grandchildren, Amy (Mark) Peterson of New Albin, Kelly (Jonnie) Oliver of Palmyra, VA, Matt (Becky) Rea of Lansing, Michelle Staggemeyer of Onalaska, WI, Adam (Gayle) Staggemeyer of Auburn, IL, Rachel Staggemeyer and Dayna Staggemeyer of Carlinville, IL, Andy (Jill) Luttchens of Caledonia, MN, Mitch Luttchens of Eitzen, MN, Wayne (Megan) Myhre of St. Charles, MN, Jeremy Myhre (Danielle Dehning) of Caledonia, MN, and Brooke Staggemeyer of Eitzen, MN; 10 great-grandchildren; one brother, Howard (Janice) Staggemeyer of Caledonia,  MN; one sister-in-law, Grace Staggemeyer of Caledonia, MN; and several nieces and nephews.
Milton was preceded in death by his parents; one sister, Mary Staggemeyer; and one brother, Norbert Staggemeyer.
