Norbert Meyer

Norbert A. Meyer, 82, of Waukon, formerly of Dubuque, died Monday, November 16, 2009 at the Good Samaritan Center in Waukon following a brief illness. Memorial services will be held at a later date. Martin Funeral Home in Waukon assisted the family with arrangements.
Norbert Armin Meyer was born March 12, 1927 in La Crosse, WI, the son of Henry and Frieda (Beneke) Meyer. Norbert and his family moved to Eitzen, MN at a young age, he graduated from Caledonia High School in Caledonia, MN. Norbert served in the U.S. Navy at the conclusion of WW II on the USS Butler. After the service he worked as a farm hand.
October 20, 1951 he married Doris Ann Shefelbine at Dorchester Methodist Church in Dorchester. Norbert and Doris lived in Dubuque, where he worked for Interstate Power Company as a mechanic, retiring in 1989. Norbert was a member of the American Legion in Dubuque and the VFW in Waukon. He spent many enjoyable hours on his farm, fixing most of what was broken and not worrying about the little things.
Survivors include his wife of 58 years, Doris Ann Meyer of Waukon; his children, Larry (Karen) Meyer of Dubuque and their children Melinda and Emily, Laina (Darrell) Ford of Waukon and their children Ericka and Melissa (Alex) Kaltsas and their son Owen of Grinnell; and Kenneth (Theresa) Meyer of Cedar, MN and their children Dylan and Tanya; a brother, Merlin Meyer of Caledonia, MN; and two sisters-in-law, Beverly Meyer and Linda Meyer, both of Eitzen, MN. He is also survived by extended families from the farm and children. Norbert was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Irvin and Ronald Meyer; and a sister-in-law, Louella Meyer.
