Virginia was born in Henderson, KY March 31, 1937, spent 40-plus years in and around Chicago, IL and moved to the beautiful area of Ferryville, WI, where she was a resident for the past 29 years.
Virginia was preceded in death by her husband, John T. Johnson, former fireman of the Chicago Fire Department; her brother, Frank Bailey; and her sister, Alma C. Norten.
Virginia was the loving mother of Jolyn (James) Barrow, Joseph F. (Kathy), John T., and Jennifer A. Kolsrud. She is survived by her brother, George Bailey; and her sister, Barbara Gates. She was aunt to Sue (Tim) - nee Norten - Phillips, Tommy and Sarah Bailey, and Jason Gates. She was the loving ‘Grandma Johnson’ to John Michael, Andrew Gary, Thomas Everett, and Lainey Jo.
Virginia was an ‘outside of the box’ artist and a real renaissance woman. She applied her natural artistic talents to watercolor painting, ceramics, pottery, cooking, but most of all quilting. Many of these talents are seen in her one-of-a-kind quilts. Her quilts are known for their originality, many of which included her hand-dyed and hand-painted fabric. She was the owner of the Olde Tyme Quilt Shoppe off Rush Creek Road in Ferryville, WI.
Virginia was a co-founder and board member for the now very popular annual Driftless Art Festival. Virginia was also involved in many fundraising events for the Ferryville Vision & Promotion Board, most notably the annual biscuit breakfast. Her biscuits were renowned in the area and this year raised money by selling over 200 biscuits.
Virginia has many friends and family who will miss her dearly.
