Loren Bulman

Loren A. Bulman, 89, of Spring Grove, MN, formerly of Dorchester, died peacefully Sunday, June 25, 2017 at Gundersen Health System in La Crosse, WI. A celebration of life was held Tuesday, June 27 at Mt. Hope Presbyterian Church in rural New Albin with Pastor Paul Burgess officiating. Interment was at the church cemetery. Martin Funeral Home in Waukon handled the arrangements. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred.

Loren Alton Bulman was born April 10, 1928 in Preston, MN, the son of Alton John and Helga Mae (Sadler) Bulman. In 1947, he graduated from Waukon High School in Waukon.

July 18, 1952, Loren married Margaret Bratrud at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Lansing. For 65 years Loren farmed in the English Bench area. Initially working on his father’s farm, Loren then bought his own farm on land that was previously settled by his great-grandparents. Four and a half years ago, Loren and Margaret retired and moved to Spring Grove, MN.

Ronald Folsom

Ronald "Butch" Folsom, 87, of Cresco, formerly of Waukon, died at the Cresco Hospital June 14, 2017. Graveside services were held at the Cresco Cemetery June 17.

Ronald was born June 24, 1930 at Postville, the son of Milo and Alice (Meier) Folsom. He attended country school and two years of high school at Postville before leaving school to go home and help on the farm. After his father's death in 1963, Ronald farmed until 1967, when he sold out and moved to Waukon. He started working at Meadowland/Wisconsin Dairy, and at the age of 62 years he retired.

He cared and made a home for his mother until her passing in 1982, after which he moved to Cresco and married Irene Houdek, who passed away in 2002. He lived on their farm until his health failed, moving to Evans Nursing Home in Cresco, where he resided for the past three and a half years.

Thomas Duggan

Thomas Daniel Duggan, 78, of Waukon passed away Thursday, May 25, 2017 at St. Mary's Hospital in Rochester, MN. A celebration of life service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, June 30 at St. Patrick Catholic Church, Waukon. Father Mark Osterhaus will be officiating. A reception will follow in the church meeting room. Memorials may be made to the American Congenital Heart Association.

UPDATE: Stolen vehicle found, residents advised to maintain awareness

The Waukon Police Department reports that a red 1999 Dodge Neon bearing Iowa license plate EKJ 091 was stolen from Waukon between 11 p.m. Friday, June 23 and 10 a.m. Saturday, June 24 in the 500 block of West Main Street. The department also received a report of another vehicle on Clinton Street in Waukon that was broken into and the ignition mechanism removed. Both vehicles were locked and the keys were not in the ignition at the time.

In an updated report, the Waukon Police Department advises that the stolen vehicle has been located in Dubuque, but also warns that there is obviously still a concern of future break-ins due to the method used and that there were two vehicles affected.

David Anderson

David Christian Anderson, 77, of Allamakee County died May 1, 2017 at Veterans Memorial Hospital in Waukon. A Remembrance and potluck will be held Saturday, July 1 at Phelps Park in Decorah from 11 a.m.-2 p.m.

Born October 21, 1939 in Duluth, MN, David grew up on the North Shore of Lake Superior at Flood Bay and in Two Harbors. He attended Two Harbors High School where he excelled and played piano, accordion and trombone in marching band. After graduating from high school in 1957, David worked as a crew member on ships on the Great Lakes for a period of time, then went on to college and earned a degree in Sociology at Hamline University.

Isabella Swenson

Isabella Rose Swenson, 10-day-old daughter of Brian and Amanda Swenson of Waukon, died Sunday, June 18, 2017 at Mayo Clinic Heath System, Franciscan Healthcare in La Crosse, WI. A funeral mass was held Friday, June 23 at St. Patrick Catholic Church in Waukon with Fr. Mark Osterhaus officiating. Burial was in Mt. Olivet Cemetery, Waukon.

Isabella Rose Swenson surprised us all by rushing into this world June 8, 2017, four months premature. She greeted us with a tiny cry and squirming limbs and kept fighting so hard to stay. Her little arms and legs were always going, but she was calmed by the sound of Mama's voice and loved to hear Daddy sing to her. She was a fighter and tried so hard, but in the end her tiny body could not contain her mighty spirit. Isabella Rose gave us 10 amazing days of life, but she went to rest in Our Savior June 18, 2017, after a valiant effort to be.

Alice Feuerhelm

Alice Mae Feuerhelm, 89, of Lansing died Monday, June 19, 2017 at Thornton Manor in Lansing. Mass of Christian Burial was held Friday, June 23 at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Lansing. Burial followed at Gethsemane Cemetery, Lansing.

Alice Mae was born March 24, 1928 to Michael and Elizabeth (Manning) Gavin in rural Wexford. She graduated from Immaculate Conception High School in Lansing.

Alice was united in marriage with Burton Feuerhelm February 15, 1947 at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Wexford. Together with her husband, Alice worked hard on the family farm while raising their children. She enjoyed gardening, baking, sewing, canning and tending to the needs of her family. Alice was a devoted member of the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church. She loved playing cards, attending family functions and spending time with her family.

Carol Henkel

Carol R. Henkel, age 74, of Dorchester, formerly of Dubuque, was called home peacefully at 1:45 p.m. Tuesday, June 20, 2017 at Unity Point Health-Finley Hospital in Dubuque surrounded by her loving family. To honor Carol’s life, funeral services were held Monday, June 26 at Holy Spirit Parish, Sacred Heart Church, Dubuque with Rev. Aaron R. Junge officiating. Burial was in Mount Calvary Cemetery, Dubuque.

Carol was born November 4, 1942 in Dubuque, the daughter of Oliver, Sr. and Mary (Garrett) Merz. Carol grew up in Dubuque, where she earnestly worked as a cashier at Walsh’s until she eventually met and fell in love with her one true soul-mate, James H. Henkel. The cute couple was united in marriage September 10, 1962 at St. Patrick’s Church and was graciously blessed with over 56 wonderful years of marriage and four deeply adored children.

Robert and Barbara Leppert 60th wedding anniversary

Robert Sr. and Barbara (Clancy) Leppert of Lansing will be celebrating their 60th wedding anniversary. The couple exchanged vows June 2, 1957 at the Lansing Presbyterian Church.

They are the parents of Josey (Ken) Hopballe of Las Vegas, NV, Lesa (Jack) Dreps of Windsor, VA, Audrey (Paul) Ellbogen of Stateline, NV and Robert Jr. (Tammy) Leppert of Lansing. Grandchildren are Brittany, Cody and Christopher Hopballe, Joshua, Jonah (Jennifer), Lyndsey (John Whaley) and Leah Dreps, Sydney and Sadie Ellbogen, and Rachel, Justin, Maria, Andrea, Elizabeth, Jessica, Ryan and Brandon Leppert. Great-grandchildren are Hayden, Braydon, Chloe, Taylor and Elaina.

Family and friends are invited to join them for an event hosted by their children and their families Sunday, June 25 from 1-4 p.m. at the Lansing United Methodist Church to celebrate their anniversary. The couple requests no gifts, your presence at the celebration will be their gift.

Ernest and Donnalee Osland, Then and now

Ernest and Donnalee Osland of Waukon will be celebrating their 50th wedding anniversary. Ernest Osland and Donnalee Palas exchanged vows June 25, 1967 at Old West Paint Creek Lutheran Church, rural Waukon.

They have three daughters, Diana (Jeff) Johnson, Holly (Glen) Palmer and Dawn (Jake) Colsch. They also have six grandchildren.
