Kee girls track team qualifies 10 events for State Meet, rewrites five school records on way to second consecutive Class 1A District team championship

Works for three of four qualifications each... The Kee girls track tandem of senior Makayla Walleser and freshman Haley Meyer (left to right) work a hand-off at the Hawks’ Class 1A State Qualifying Meet at Edgewood-Colesburg Friday, May 10. That hand-off combination worked for three Kee event qualifications for this year’s State Meet, including Kee wins in the 4x800 and distance medley, as well as a runner-up effort in the sprint medley. Meyer also won the 1500 meter run for State Meet qualification and Walleser also helped the Hawks to a qualifying win in the 4x400. Photo courtesy of the Kee High School Yearbook. Brennan, Makayla Walleser, Peters and Meyer each qualify in four events, Mitchell helps three events qualify, Mudderman earns two berths, Rachel Walleser wins 3000m

The Kee girls track team continued repeating history, and making even more, when the Lady Hawks won their second consecutive Class 1A District team championship at the Friday, May 10 State Qualifying Meet hosted by Edgewood-Colesburg. The meet was delayed a day due to colder weather Thursday, May 9, but the temperature wasn’t the only thing heating up for Friday’s meet, as the Kee girls won seven events for automatic State Meet qualification and finished second in four more. Three of those runner-up finishes also earned at-large qualification for this season’s grand finale being held in Des Moines later this week and further helped the Hawks to a team championship total of 115 points.

Community CPR for child care providers and lay people

Veterans Memorial Hospital in cooperation with the American Heart Association is offering a course in cardiopulmonary resuscitation for lay people (those not working in healthcare), which includes child care providers, Wednesday, May 15 from 5-8 p.m.

The CPR class, which will cover adult, child and infant CPR, will be held in the Large Conference Room located on the lower level of the hospital. The cost of the class, for certification or recertification, is the same. The card received with the course does certify attendants in CPR for two years.

CPR is administered when someone’s breathing, pulse, or both, stop. When both of them stop, the victim has suffered sudden death, which can be caused by poisoning, drowning, choking, suffocation, electrocution, smoke inhalation, or the most common cause, heart attack.
