New adult reading program at Robey Memorial Library

Robey Memorial Library in Waukon now has a reading challenge just for its 18 and older patrons.
To participate, simply read a book from one category during the month and note the book title on an entry form, available on library's website or at the front desk.

Mosaic to host "Discover the Possibilities" events

Mosaic of Northeast Iowa cordially invites area residents to tour its facilities and learn about its mission and the people it serves in the Waukon and Decorah communities.
Upcoming "Discover the Possibilities" events at Mosaic's main offices at 12 E. Main Street in Waukon include Thursday, January 10 and Thursday, January 24 at 12 noon on both days. The events last 30-45 minutes and food and beverages will be provided.

"Survivor: Philippines" winner has local ties

The latest winner of the popular television series "Survivor" has ties reaching back to the Waukon area. Denise McCormick Stapley, age 41, of Cedar Rapids was voted as the "Survivor: Philippines" million dollar winner in the series' final episode broadcast Sunday evening, December 16.
The former Denise McCormick, Stapley is the daughter of Lois Clark McCormick of Marion and the granddaughter of the late Horace and Bernice Clark of Waukon. She is currently a licensed mental health counselor and certified sex therapist in Cedar Rapids.

A Look Back: Effigy Mounds to host its 50th Annual Film Festival this year

Effigy Mounds National Monument announces its 50th Annual Film Festival. To celebrate the 50th anniversary January 5-7, the film "Love Those Trains," which was used for the 25th anniversary, will be the featured film.
It is the story of how trains have helped “to settle new lands and unite distant cultures.” In the following weekends there will be a variety of nature films and historic films that explore the 1960s, when the film festival began.
