The Allamakee County Board of Supervisors met in its regular weekly session Monday morning, December 3, addressing a pair of issues that have been mainstays of discussion over the past several weeks. Allamakee County Attorney Jill Kistler was in attendance to offer insight from her research into gender balance and advertising requirements for appointments the Supervisors are required to make to various boards within County operations.
As part of its ongoing assistance to food banks in North America, the Canadian Pacific Holiday Train will be returning to Lansing this year, making a stop Friday, December 7 along South Front Street across from the ball diamond. A scheduled time of 5:30 p.m. has been announced for the train’s arrival in Lansing, and attendees can view and enjoy its entertainment for the simple admission asking of a cash or non-perishable food donation which will then be donated to the Allamakee County Food Shelf.

Northeast Iowa Resource Conservation & Development (NEIA RC&D), the Iowa Department of Natural Resources (IA DNR) Forestry Bureau, and the United States Forest Service (USFS), have recently partnered together to implement a new initiative to inform woodland owners about the value and benefits of healthy woodlands.
The Allamakee County Board of Supervisors met in regular session Monday morning, November 26, addressing an agenda that listed just three main items but involved much more. The least involved of the three was the last agenda item and resulted in the approval of subdivision plats for Sandra Koehring and James Peter McCormick based on recommendations by the Allamakee County Plat Committee.
Members of the Little Switzerland Future Farmers of America (FFA) Chapter at Waukon High School formed one of the 37 teams participating in the National FFA Milk Quality and Products Career Development Event (CDE). The event was held in conjunction with the 85th National FFA Convention held at the Indiana State Fairgrounds in Indianapolis, IN October 24-27.
The rock climbing wall installed and opened for use at the Waukon Wellness Center earlier this year was officially designated the "Bruening Rock Products, Inc. Rock Wall" in conjunction with the Wellness Center's five-year anniversary being celebrated this past week. The designation is in recognition of the financial and other support given to the project by Bruening Rock Products, Inc. as a major contributor.
Due to the Veterans Day holiday being observed last Monday, November 12, the Allamakee County Board of Supervisors met Tuesday, November 13, resuming its regular Monday meeting time Monday, November 19.
All Allamakee County farm landowners and renters are invited by the Allamakee County Soil and Water Conservation District (SWCD) to attend one of two public meetings about the new Conservation Lease Project. The meetings will be held Tuesday, November 27 at 10 a.m. and 6 p.m. at the Farmers and Merchants Savings Bank Community Room in Waukon.
