Allamakee County accident claims Spring Grove, MN man

The Allamakee County Sheriff’s Department received a report of a one-vehicle accident Sunday, January 27 at 8:35 a.m. on Willow Drive within a quarter-mile of its intersection with Balsam Road southwest of Dorchester. The Sheriff’s Department reported that Bradley Young Engeldinger of Spring Grove, MN, age 43, was apparently traveling west on Willow Drive when his vehicle left the roadway, struck a tree and rolled over onto its top into Bear Creek, partially submerged in water. Engeldinger was pronounced dead at the scene.

Rep. Patti Ruff to host Education Listening Post in Waukon this Saturday

District 56 State Representative Patti Ruff of McGregor is hosting an education listening post in Waukon this Saturday, February 2 to gather input from parents, educators and students on school funding and proposed education reforms. The session will be held from 10 a.m. to 12 noon at the Senior Center in the Waukon Wellness Center located at 1220 Third Avenue NW on the west edge of Waukon. Parking is available on the north and south sides of the building.

Lansing Mayor resigns

Lansing Mayor Joe Strobel has resigned, effective Friday, January 18. Lansing City Clerk Katie Becker said that in his letter of resignation, Strobel thanked the citizens of Lansing and members of the City Council for their support during his terms as a Councilman and as Mayor, but cited health reasons for his resignation. After formally accepting Strobel’s resignation, the Lansing City Council voted Monday, January 21 to hold a special election to determine who will replace him as Lansing’s Mayor. The date of that special election has yet to be determined.

Single vehicle accident claims Lansing man

A one-vehicle accident early Wednesday evening, January 16 south of Harpers Ferry claimed the life of Carlton Joseph Johnson, age 60, of Lansing. According to a report from the Iowa State Patrol, the 1992 Chevrolet Blazer Johnson was driving northbound on Allamakee County Road X52 slid off the roadway described in the report as "completely ice-covered," just north of its intersection with State Highway 76, at approximately 6:25 p.m.

WW Homestead Dairy wins regional "Dream Big Grow Here" grant

WW Homestead Dairy owners Tom Walleser, Paul Weighner and Tom Weighner have been announced as the Northeast Iowa Region “Dream Big Grow Here” winners. They competed online to receive the most votes of all the northeast Iowa participants in the contest, and then competed in a presentation pitch-off Thursday, January 17, where they were selected as the $5,000 winners.

Waukon High School alum Len Rodman honored as ISU Distinguished Alumni

Len Rodman, a 1967 graduate of Waukon High School and the son of the late Loren and Nyda Mae Rodman of Waukon, has been honored by Iowa State University (ISU) in Ames with the school's highest honor bestowed upon alumni. Rodman, a 1971 Iowa State University graduate with a Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering, received the 2012 Iowa State University Distinguished Alumni Award at a ceremony held on the ISU campus last year.
