Kee girls track team places fifth at Clayton Ridge Invitational; 4x400 relay squad sets new record

In what turned out to be its only competition of the week due to inclement weather claiming a second meet later in the week, the Kee track girls made the most of that lone opportunity, breaking a school record while competing at the Clayton Ridge Invitational Tuesday, April 26. That record-breaking effort was just part of seven top-three placewinnings that led the Hawks to 74 team points for a fifth-place team finish in the seven-team field.

Sophomores Kendra Cooper and Nicki Wood teamed up with freshmen Katie Brennan and Makayla Walleser for that new Kee standard in the 4x400 relay, clocking in at 4:27.60. That record was previously set at 4:28.01 by Allison Moritz, Arin Moritz, Alison Brennan and Jessica Ewing during the 2010 Kee girls track season.

Waukon girls track team ends up sixth at own Indian Relays

Highest Indian finish ...
Waukon girls track senior Madison Snitker (center) leans for the finish line in a close race in the 200 meter dash at the track Tribe’s own Indian Relays home invitational Tuesday, April 26. Snitker recorded the highest Indian event placewinning at the meet with her tie for second place with Decorah’s Kalle Solberg (far right in above photo) in that 200 meter dash event in a time of 26.58 seconds. Although this was the first time Snitker did not win the 200 meter dash this season, it took a NCAA Division I track and field recruit to end her winning streak, as Central Elkader senior Haley Schroeder (far left in the above photo), who will be competing for the University of Iowa women’s track and field team next year, edged out the 200 meter win in 26.30 seconds. In what turned out to be its only meet of the past week, the Waukon girls track team played host to six other teams in its own Indian Relays Tuesday, April 26. Cooler temperatures and a stiff breeze provided an even greater challenge for the Indians, as they managed five event finishes within the top three to compile 55 team points and place sixth in the meet’s final seven-team standings.

The Indians were scheduled to compete at the MFL/MarMac Invitational Thursday, April 28 but had that meet canceled due to cold, wet weather. The Tribe is scheduled to wrap up its regular season this week by competing at Waverly-Shell Rock Tuesday, May 3 and then hosting the Northeast Iowa Conference Co-Ed Meet Thursday, May 5, beginning at 5 p.m., details of which appear in a shaded

Waukon boys golf team ends up short of the win column in busy week of three dual meets

The Waukon boys golf team turned in another busy, three-event week of competition this past week, coming up shy in all three events to remain at just a single dual meet victory so far this spring. The Tribe linksters rounded out the week with a 363-394 loss at Charles City Friday, April 22 in a rare 18-hole match postponed from its original April 5 date due to inclement weather.

The Indians were scheduled to host another three dual meets this week, including Crestwood Monday, April 25, Prairie du Chien, WI Tuesday, April 26 and New Hampton Friday, April 29. The golf Tribe will then have just a Monday, May 2 road date at Oelwein on its schedule for next week.

Pair of top-five field event finishes ...
Waukon boys track senior Michael Schulte unleashes a strong discus effort at the Tribe’s own Indian Relays home invitational meet Friday, April 22. The Indians were scheduled to compete at Oelwein Tuesday, April 26.
