Marian Minnie Thornton, age 78, of Castalia died Monday, November 26, 2012 at the Franciscan Skemp Hospital in LaCrosse, WI. A celebration of life service was held Monday, December 3 at the Zion Lutheran Church in Castalia. Private family interment will take place at the Pleasant View Cemetery in Castalia.

Kenneth Shogren, 85, of Waukon died Sunday, November 25, 2012 at his home. Funeral services will be held Monday, December 3 at 1 p.m. at Martin Funeral Home in Waukon with Pastors Eddie Cabrera and Garry Birth officiating. Burial will be at Oakland Cemetery, Waukon. Friends may call from 3-6 p.m. Sunday, December 2 at the funeral home. A complete obituary will follow in a future edition of The Standard.

Emeline Jeglum, 92, of Waukon died Monday, November 26, 2012 at the Good Samaritan Center in Waukon. Funeral services are pending with Martin Funeral Home in Waukon.

James “Jim” Ellefson, 77, of Waukon died Tuesday, November 20, 2012 at Veterans Memorial Hospital in Waukon. Funeral services were held Friday, November 23 at Martin Funeral Home in Waukon with Pastor Ken Kimball officiating. Burial was at Oak Hill Cemetery in Lansing.

Jay Clifford Clark, 73, of Lansing, formerly of Waterloo, died Monday, November 19, 2012 at Gundersen Lutheran Hospital, La Crosse, WI. Graveside Services were held Saturday, November 24 at Garden of Memories in Waterloo.

Viola Marie Traversey, 95, of Harpers Ferry died Sunday, November 18, 2012 at Thornton Manor in Lansing. Memorial Services were held Saturday, November 24 at St. Ann-St. Joseph Catholic Church, Harpers Ferry, with Fr. John Moser officiating. Burial was in Paint Rock Cemetery, Harpers Ferry.
Viola Marie Traversey was born June 25, 1917 to Golden and Tena (Spiker) Crowley of New Albin. Later, the family moved to Harpers Ferry, where she attended rural schools.

Garland M. Ashbacher, 76, of Cedar Rapids died Sunday evening, November 11, 2012 at the Woodlands, The Meth-Wick Community. A Funeral Mass was held Monday, November 19 at Saint Wenceslaus Catholic Church, Cedar Rapids, officiated by Father Christopher Podhajsky. Burial was in Saint John’s Cemetery, Cedar Rapids.
Garland was born June 3, 1936 in Caledonia, MN. He married Barbara A. Rohlena August 5, 1961 at Saint Wenceslaus Catholic Church, Cedar Rapids.

Donald Thomas Byrnes, 72, of Lansing died Monday, November 12, 2012 at the Great River Care Center, McGregor. Funeral Services were held Thursday, November 15 at the Thornburg-Grau Funeral Home and Cremation Service of Lansing, with the Rev. John Moser officiating. Burial was held in Gethsemane Cemetery, Lansing.
Don was born July 19, 1940 in Waukon to Cyril and Lucille (Mauss) Byrnes. He attended St. George Catholic School in Lansing through the eighth grade.

James Francis “Jim”  Foster, 86, of Postville died Tuesday, November 13, 2012 at the Good Samaritan Center, Waukon. Funeral Services were held Saturday, November 17 at the Community Presbyterian Church, Postville. A private family inurnment will be held at a later date.

Julius "Marlan" Johnson, 80, died Saturday, November 3, 2012 at his home in Mission Viejo, CA.
Marlan was born June 16, 1932 in Monona to Julius T. and Mildred (Swenson) Johnson. He attended Monona High School after which he served in the U.S. Army. He then made his home in California where he worked for North American Aviation for a number of years and later worked for Life Paint.
