Obituaries are published in The Standard for a $45 fee and can be brought to the office at 15 First Street NW in Waukon, mailed to PO Box 286, Waukon IA 52172, or e-mailed to news@waukonstandard.com. Photos may be included for an additional charge of $15 (additonal photos are also $15). Obituaries of excessive length (longer than our single-column length of 15.5") will also incur an additional charge of $11/column inch for the content measuring longer than our 15.5-inch column length. Nicole McGeough

Nicole M. McGeough, of Prescott Valley, AZ, 28, formerly of Waukon, died Tuesday, June 25, 2024, at her home in Arizona. A prayer service will be held Saturday, July 20 at 11 a.m. at St. Patrick Catholic Church in Waukon, with Fr. John Moser officiating. Burial will be at St. Pius Cherry Mound Cemetery in rural Harpers Ferry at a later date.

Friends may greet the family from 9 a.m. until the time of the prayer service at the church Saturday, July 20. Martin-Grau Funeral Home in Waukon is handling the arrangements.

Randy Brainard

Randy J. Brainard, 65, of Luana died Wednesday, July 3, 2024, at the Good Samaritan Society in Waukon. A celebration of life will be held at a later date. Martin-Grau Funeral Home in Waukon is handling the arrangements.

Randy Joe Brainard was born November 5, 1958, in Postville, the son of Clarence and Sharon Kay (Rubendall) Brainard, Jr. He attended Waukon High School. Randy worked as a meat cutter for many years, traveling around the United States. He also worked as a custodian for Ascension Public School before he retired.

Randy lived in Louisiana until 2017, before moving to Luana. He was a member of Forest Mills United Methodist Church in rural Postville. Randy enjoyed fishing and collecting rocks.

Survivors include his mother, Sharon Goeke of Waukon; his siblings: Dixie Schnuelle of Holmen, WI, Janet (Kevin) Halweg of Decorah, Scott (Linda) Brainard of Luana, and Lori (Rod) Luebbers of Sumner; and many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews.

Lisa Everson Celebration of Life

A Celebration of Life for Lisa Joan Everson is being planned for this Sunday, July 7. Lisa was born July 7, 1959 and passed away April 6, 2024. That Celebration of Life will take place from 11 a.m.-7 p.m. at the De Soto Community Center. There will be a short welcoming and meal blessing at 11:30 a.m.

On what would have been Lisa’s 65th birthday, we invite you to her celebration of life. She requested one more party, and as such, we look forward to sharing all of our happiest stories, memories and laughter with her friends and family. Enjoy pulled pork sandwiches and our best attempt at Lisa’s famous Hee Hee potatoes. Some beverages will be provided (soda, lemonade, water, and beer), but if you want something specific, bring your favorite flavor.

Children are welcome, and assuming Cottonwood Park isn’t flooded, there should be ample room for them to play. We look forward to seeing everyone at this celebration!

Dustin Lewey

Dustin J. Lewey, 41, of Monona, formerly of Waukon, died Monday, July 1, 2024, at his home in Monona. Memorial services were held Monday, July 8 at Martin - Grau Funeral Home in Waukon with Pastor Rusty Phillips officiating. Burial followed at Sixteen Cemetery in rural Harpers Ferry.

Dustin James Lewey was born May 26, 1983, in Waukon, the son of Michael R. Lewey and Cindy (Beisker) Topel. He was baptized at St. Patrick Catholic Church and attended Waukon High School. Dustin was a welder at Gencor in Marquette and owned Lewey Mobile Welders with his son, Jese, as well. July 4, 2014, he married Erica Rose McGeough in Las Vegas, NV, and they made their home in Monona.

Dewey Prouty

Dewey V. Prouty, 74, of Waukon died Monday, July 1, 2024, at Good Samaritan Center in Waukon. Funeral services were held Saturday, July 6 at Zalmona Presbyterian Church in rural Waukon with Pastor Sue Klimstra officiating. Burial was at Pleasant Grove Cemetery, McGregor.

Dewey Vern Prouty was born January 1, 1950, in Waukon, the son of James and Lauryne (Rush) Prouty. Dewey was a member of Rossville Presbyterian Church and was baptized and confirmed in Waukon.

He attended country and Waukon schools. Dewey married the love of his life, Lorraine Cardin, August 1, 1973, in Illinois. Throughout his life, he worked as a heavy equipment operator at Rhiem Construction, JB Holland Construction, and Bruening Rock Products, from where he eventually retired.

He enjoyed stockcar racing, which he did for many years. More than anything, Dewey loved spending time with his family and relaxing in his La-Z-Boy recliner.

Donald Aschom

Donald F. Aschom died June 3, 2024 in Haslett, MI. An optimist and encourager, he met everyone with a smile and looked for the best in each person and situation.

Don was born March 24, 1928 to George and Edna Aschom, growing up in the Mississippi River town of Lansing. He graduated from Lansing High School in 1946. Don played basketball for Luther College, graduating in 1950. He served in the U.S. Army in Germany during the Korean War.

He began his career with the Northwestern University Traffic Institute in Evanston, IL, followed by work at the Michigan State University Highway and Traffic Safety Center. In 1964 he became director of the Michigan State Insurance Institute, which he led for 26 years.

He retired in 1990, moving with his wife, Betty, to Seneca, SC. They returned to Michigan in 2019 to be closer to family.

Carlton Tryon

Carlton J. Tryon, 48, of Garnavillo, formerly of Waukon, died Saturday, June 29, 2024, at his home in Garnavillo. Private family graveside services will be held in Smithfield Cemetery, rural Monona with Charles Tryon officiating. Martin-Grau Funeral Home in Waukon is handling arrangements.

Carlton John Tryon was born November 19, 1975, at University of Iowa Hospitals in Iowa City, the son of Charles and Carol (Borcherding) Tryon. He graduated from Waukon High School. Carlton was a former member of First Baptist Church in Waukon and Center Baptist Church in rural Lansing. He was an avid Iowa Hawkeye fan. Carlton enjoyed visiting with family and friends and spending time in the outdoors.

Survivors include his mother, Carol Tryon of Waukon; his brothers: Charles (Cintya) Tryon of Granton, WI, Chad (Ikha) Tryon of Chicago, IL, and John (Angreina) Knudtson of Granton, WI. He is preceded in death by his father, Charles; and his twin brother, Clifford Rene Tryon.

Robert “Bob” Maxson

An open house Celebraton of Life for Robert “Bob” Maxson, “Beer and Brats for Bob,” will be held at T-Bocks upper level event room at 206 West Water Street in Decorah from 3-6 p.m. Saturday, July 6. A short program will begin at 3:30 p.m. followed by sharing memories and stories about Bob.

There will be several opportunities during the time to share stories. The event center may be accessed by the door next to T-Bock’s bar on Water Street or from the rear parking lot. The front access has a handicap-accessible chair on the stairs.

Joel Conderman

Joel E. Conderman, 71, of Waukon passed away Friday, June 28, 2024, at Northgate Care Center in Waukon. Visitation will be held from 4-6 p.m. Monday, July 8, at the Martin-Grau Funeral Home in Waukon. Burial will be held in Greenfield Cemetery in Knierim.

Joel Edwin Conderman was born April 3, 1954, in Fort Dodge, the son of Walter L. and Myrna M. (Green) Conderman. The family later moved to Cedar Rapids. Joel was confirmed at Westminster Presbyterian Church and graduated from Kennedy High School in 1971. He attended Kirkwood Community College and studied math, music, and business law.

Elinor Meyer

A graveside burial service will be held for Elinor Englehorn Meyer, who passed away September 3, 2023 in San Antonio, TX at the age of 95. The burial service will take place at Oak Hill Cemetery, located at 1843 Valley Street, Lansing, Saturday, July 20 at 11 a.m. A luncheon will follow the service at Lansing United Methodist Church, located at 490 Center Street, Lansing.
