Obituaries are published in The Standard for a $45 fee and can be brought to the office at 15 First Street NW in Waukon, mailed to PO Box 286, Waukon IA 52172, or e-mailed to news@waukonstandard.com. Photos may be included for an additional charge of $15 (additonal photos are also $15). Obituaries of excessive length (longer than our single-column length of 15.5") will also incur an additional charge of $11/column inch for the content measuring longer than our 15.5-inch column length. Andrew Chase

Andrew M. Chase, 20, of Lansing passed away in his sleep at his home in Lansing Friday, July 1, 2016. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, July 6, 2016 at St. Pius Catholic Church (Cherry Mound), rural Harpers Ferry. Rev. John Moser will be the celebrant.

Visitation will be held from 3-7 p.m. Tuesday, July 5 at Thornburg-Grau Funeral Home in Lansing and one hour before services at the church Wednesday. Interment will be held in the church cemetery following the mass.

Andrew Mark Chase was born March 13, 1996 to Steve and Marilyn (Delaney) Chase. He joined a brother, Adam, and two sisters, Amanda and Adriana. Andrew was baptized at St. Pius Catholic Church (Cherry Mound) and confirmed at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church (Wexford). He attended Waterville Elementary School before his family moved to Lansing and he graduated from Kee High School in 2014.

Eldon Muchow

Eldon H. Muchow, 76, of Postville passed away Saturday, July 2, 2016 at his home in Postville. Funeral Services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, July 6, 2016 at Community Presbyterian Church in Postville with Rev. Gary Catterson as the Officiant. Inurnment will be held at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at St. Paul Lutheran Cemetery, Monona. Visitation will be Tuesday, July 5 from 4-7 p.m. at Schutte-Grau Funeral Home in Postville and one hour before services at the church Wednesday.

Eldon Hall, the son of Hall and Mildred (Thompson) Muchow, was born February 19, 1940 at home in Postville.  He graduated from Postville High School in 1957. After high school, Eldon started working at the Postville Creamery and then at Swiss Valley in Luana after the Postville Creamery moved. He worked at the Hygrade Plant in Postville until it closed and he then worked for Iowa Turkey Products for 24 years before his retirement.

Darlene Rush

Darlene E. Rush, 86, of Waukon died Thursday, June 30, 2016 at Good Samaritan Center in Waukon. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, July 6 at 10 a.m. at Rossville Presbyterian Church in Rossville with Pastor Tim Rupert officiating. Burial will be at Rossville Cemetery, Rossville. Friends may call from 4-8 p.m. Tuesday, July 5 at Martin Funeral Home in Waukon.
Darlene Ellen Rush was born October 18, 1929 in La Crosse, WI, the daughter of Creighton and Gladys (Hanson) Bender. She was baptized and confirmed at East Paint Creek Synod Lutheran Church in rural Waterville. In 1947, Darlene graduated from Waterville High School; she played basketball and during her senior year her team played in the state championship game. Because her parents moved to California, Darlene was raised by her grandfather, Otto Hanson, so she could finish school in Waterville.

Lila Mahr

Lila A. Mahr, 87, of Waukon passed away Wednesday, June 29, 2016 at Good Samaritan Center in Waukon. Funeral services were held Saturday, July 2 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Dorchester with Fr. Donald Hawes officiating. Burial was at St. Mary’s Cemetery, Dorchester.

Lila Ann Mahr, daughter of Reinhard and Alvina (Auna) Lane, was born February 8, 1929 in Spring Grove, MN. She received the sacraments of baptism and confirmation at Highland Lutheran Church in rural Spring Grove, MN. Lila graduated from Spring Grove High School and worked at the Spring Grove Bank.

December 15, 1947, she married the love of her life, Raymond James Mahr, at which time she became a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Dorchester.  They lived in Cedar Rapids, where together they worked at Quaker Oats. In 1949 they moved back to the Dorchester area and farmed until 1955.  They then owned and operated Ray and Lila’s Tavern in Dorchester for 10 years.

Ruby Olson

Ruby C. Olson, 82, of Harpers Ferry died Friday, June 24, 2016 at Veterans Memorial Hospital in Waukon. A celebration of life was held Monday, June 27 at Old East Paint Creek Lutheran Church in rural Waterville, with Pastor Ken Kimball officiating. Burial was at the church cemetery.

Martin Funeral Home in Waukon assisted the family with arrangements. Memorials can be made to Veterans Memorial Hospital in Waukon, Hospice of Crossing Rivers Health in Prairie du Chien, WI, Lutheran World Relief, the Salvation Army, or to Lutheran Bible Translators.

Ruby Carol Olson was born July 24, 1933 in Churchtown, the daughter of Archibald Thomas and Jennie Olivia (Peterson) Uren. She attended and graduated from Lansing schools; after high school Ruby worked for Rethwisch Lumber and the Lansing button factory.

Lawrence "Joe" Kubitz

June 23, 2016, we lost but Heaven gained a caring, gentle man. After a short illness, Lawrence “Joe” Kubitz, born to Richard and Teresa (Mitchell) Kubitz, passed away at his aunt’s home in New Albin.

A funeral mass will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, June 30 at St. Joseph Catholic Church, New Albin. Father John Moser will officiate. Following the mass, military honors will be rendered outside the church by the Kenneth Casey VFW Post 5603 of New Albin.

A visitation will be held from 4-7:30 p.m. with a prayer service at 7 p.m. Wednesday, June 29 at the New Albin Community Center. There will also be visitation from 10 a.m. until the time of the mass Thursday at the church. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred.

Joe spent four years serving our country in the United States Marines with two and a half years as Crew Chief of a C H 46 helicopter. Joe met his future wife while living in Florida.

Brother Leo V. Ryan, CSV

Brother Leo V. Ryan, CSV died Wednesday, June 22, 2016 at the Moorings of Arlington Heights Rehabilitation Center in Arlington Heights, IL. Br. Ryan requested that his body be donated to science.

A memorial Mass will be held Saturday, July 2 at 11 a.m. at Saint Viator High School, 1213 East Oakton Street in Arlington Heights, IL. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Br. Leo V. Ryan, CSV Scholarship Fund at Saint Viator High School in Arlington Heights, IL or the Br. Leo V. Ryan, CSV Endowed Scholarship in Management at DePaul University in Chicago, IL.

Donald Pothast

Donald D. Pothast, 86, of Waukon died Friday, June 17, 2016 at Veterans Memorial Hospital in Waukon. Funeral services were held Monday, June 20 at St. John's Lutheran Church in Waukon, with Rev. Lynn G. Groe officiating. Burial with military graveside rites was at Oakland Cemetery, Waukon.

Donald Duane Pothast was born March 7, 1930 in Waverly, the son of Arthur Julius and Meta Bertha (Benning) Pothast. He was baptized and confirmed at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Waverly. In 1948, Don graduated from Waverly High School, where he played football and basketball. Don received his B.A. in business education and social studies from Iowa State Teachers College (now the University of Northern Iowa) in 1952.

Ann Trudo

Ann Louise Trudo, 74, of Marquette died Monday, June 13, 2016 at her home in Marquette. Funeral Services were held Thursday, June 16 at First Congregational Church, McGregor, with Rev. William Gentry as the Officiant. Burial followed at Pleasant Grove Cemetery, McGregor.

Ann was the daughter of Philip J. Jenson and Martha (Cole) Jenson and was born February 16, 1942 in Iowa City. She graduated from Lansing High School in 1960.

Ann was united in marriage with Eugene Lewis Trudo December 19, 1970 at St. Paul Lutheran Church in McGregor. Ann worked in Cedar Rapids in the electronics industry in her younger years, she then went and worked for McGregor Loud Speaker in McGregor and Prairie du Chien, WI for a few years.

Ilene Genz

Ilene Marie Genz, 81, of Harpers Ferry died Sunday, June 19, 2016 at Gundersen Lutheran Hospital in La Crosse, WI. Funeral services will be held Thursday, June 23 at 11 a.m. at Martin Funeral Home in Waukon, with Rev. Lynn G. Groe officiating. Burial will be at Sixteen Cemetery, rural Monona. Friends may call one hour before services Thursday at the funeral home.

Ilene Marie Genz was born September 9, 1934 in Clinton, the daughter of Raymond and Leona (Vanloo) Shoemaker. She was baptized and confirmed at St. Irenaeus Catholic Church in Clinton and attended schools in the Clinton area.

October 11, 1952, she married Roland Genz in Camanche. After they were married, they lived in Virginia for three years before moving back to Clinton, and in 1972 they moved to La Claire before moving to Harpers Ferry in 1991.
