Betty Bodley, 100, of Waukon died Sunday, January 28, 2024 at Northgate Care Center in Waukon. A private family memorial and burial will be held at a later date in Baxter. Martin-Grau Funeral Home in Waukon is handling arrangements.

Betty Jane Tipton was born April 12, 1923 in Ames, the daughter of Milo and Emma (Pleshek) Tipton. She grew up in Baxter. October 26, 1941, Betty was united in marriage to Ted Bodley and they celebrated 73 years of marriage. After moving from central Iowa, she and Ted farmed many years in the Maynard, Postville and Waukon areas.

She was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Fayette. Betty was very talented; she cross-stitched and sewed beautifully. She was a fantastic cook and loved baking apple pies and making fudge with Ted.

Mary Lynn (Gearhart) Campbell, 62, passed away January 18, 2024 peacefully at her home in Evergreen, CO of complications from metastatic breast cancer. In accordance with Mary’s wishes, there will be a private family memorial service followed by a celebration of life to be held in Evergreen, CO in the spring. Mary was born October 10, 1961 in Lamar, CO, the youngest daughter of Richard and Anna Gearhart. She moved to Waukon in 1970 and graduated from Waukon High School with the class of 1980.

Kenneth Joseph Leppert, 89, of Lansing entered his eternal, heavenly home Monday, January 22, 2024. Funeral services were held Saturday, January 27 at the United Methodist Church in Lansing with Pastor James “Buck” Buckhahn officiating. Burial with military honors was at Oak Hill Cemetery in Lansing. Ken has requested that memorials be given to the Lansing Rural Fire Department and/or Lansing Emergency Medical Services (EMS), 51 North Front Street, Lansing, IA 52151.

Kenneth Joseph Leppert was born June 16, 1934 in Waukon to Florence (Bechtel) and Dewey G. Leppert. He was baptized and confirmed in the Congregational Church in Churchtown. He attended French Creek #4 School through seventh grade and graduated from Lansing Public High School in 1954. Ken entered the U.S. Army in September 1954 and served 18 months in Okinawa, Japan; he was honorably discharged in September 1956.

Agnes M. Anderson, 97, of Waukon passed away peacefully Friday, January 19, 2024 at Northgate Care Center in Waukon. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, January 24 at 12:30 p.m. at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Waukon with Pastor Bryan Robertson officiating. Burial will be at Old West Paint Creek Cemetery, rural Waukon. Friends may greet the family from 10:30 a.m. until the time of services Wednesday at the church. The family would like to invite friends to a celebratory lunch beginning after the church service; the family will join them after the burial.

Martin-Grau Funeral Home in Waukon is handling arrangements. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Allamakee County Food Shelf, St. John’s Lutheran Church, or to a charity of choice.

Jim J. Byrnes, 95, of Waukon died Saturday, January 20, 2024 at Good Samaritan Center in Waukon. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, January 24 at 11 a.m. at St. Patrick Catholic Church in Waukon with Fr. John Moser officiating. Burial will be at Mt. Olivet Cemetery, Waukon. Friends may greet the family from 10 a.m. until the time of services Wednesday at the church.

James “Jim” Joseph Byrnes was born August 9, 1928 in Waukon, the son of John Francis and Eleanor (Link) Byrnes. He was baptized and confirmed at St. Patrick Catholic Church in Waukon. Jim graduated from Waukon High School. He served in the United States Army in the early 1950s.

Dr. Dale L. Lonning, age 52, of Dubuque completed his earthly journey January 15, 2024 at the University of Iowa Hospital and Clinics while surrounded by his loving family. To honor Dale’s life, a private service was being held at Grand View Methodist Church. Tri-State Cremation Center is humbly serving Dale’s family.

Dale was born November 22, 1971 in Waukon, the youngest son of Frank and Revelyn (Robey) Lonning.  He was raised with a strong work ethic and a kind and generous spirit. Dale earned his Bachelor’s degree from Simpson College and completed his Doctorate in Chiropractic at Palmer College before he and his wife, Danielle Heck-Lonning, moved to Dubuque to begin their careers and start a family.

Danielle was sadly called home ahead of Dale April 12, 2019. If there is any peace to be found it’s simply that he and Danielle are now reunited again for all of eternity.

Evelyn Louise Bock, age 98, of Decorah died Thursday, January 11, 2024 at Eastern Star Nursing Home in Decorah, four days after her 98th birthday. Funeral services were held Tuesday, January 16 at the Helms Funeral Home, Decorah. Rev. Doug Bryce presided. The burial was in the Freeport Cemetery. Memorials can be made out to the family.

Evelyn Bock was born in Fergus Falls, MN January 7, 1926, the daughter of Conrad and Olga Olson.  In 1938, Conrad, who was a postal worker, accepted a transfer to Chicago,  IL. She attended the Moody Bible Institute and Northern Baptist Seminary and became a “church missionary” for Fairfield Baptist Church in Chicago and Immanuel Baptist Church in Waukegan. At Immanuel Baptist Church, she married Wilton Bock September 19, 1953.

The last of the Clancy girls of Lansing passed away at her home in La Crescent, MN January 9, 2024. Bebe A. Truelsen died after a short illness under the loving care of her daughter, granddaughters and soulmate. Bebe was born April 24, 1937 to Walter L. Clancy and Verona R. (Pottratz) Clancy.

A private service will be held at a later date. Coulee Region Cremation Group, Onalaska, WI is assisting the family.

She is survived by her daughter, Deanna Teklics (Rick); her grandchildren, Breanna Eagon (Brandon), Jessa Selck (Jonathan), Brandon Puleo (Rachele), Jonathan Puleo and Julia Puleo (Stefan); and her great-granddaughter. Amelia Eagon. She is further survived by her soulmate of 43 years, Rick Heiderscheit; her brother, Carl Clancy (Diane); and by countless nieces and nephews, all of whom mourn her passage.

David Brian Estes, 70, of Waukon, formerly of Manchester, passed away Saturday, January 13, 2024 at his daughter’s home in Manchester. No services will be held at this time. Leonard-Muller Funeral Home in Manchester is assisting the family with arrangements.

David was born November 19, 1953 in Pittsburgh, PA, the son of Wiley H. and Margaret (Swinton) Estes. David graduated from Port Hueneme High School, Trenton Junior College and Missouri Western State University. David then served honorably in the United States Air Force, earning the rank of sergeant.

After his military service, David worked in management for several businesses. He also worked as an insurance agent for the Farm Bureau and was the store manager for Pamida in Cresco.

Duane “Dewey” DeWalle, 78, of Waukon died Friday, January 5, 2024 at Gundersen Health System in La Crosse, WI. A celebration of life with a light meal will be held Saturday, January 13 from 12-2 p.m. at the Waukon Golf & Country Club in Waukon.

Dewey was an avid sports fan; in his honor, we would like you to wear your favorite sports team attire. Burial will be at Oakland Cemetery, Waukon. Martin-Grau Funeral Home in Waukon is handling arrangements.

Duane Lyola DeWalle was born September 29, 1945 in Cresco, the son of Lyola “Bud” and Bessie (Bilek) DeWalle. He attended elementary school and Cresco High School.

While at a gas station one day, Dewey met the woman who would end up being the love of his life, Maggie Johansen. The two were married July 8, 1970 at the Winneshiek County Courthouse.
