Photos may be included for an additional charge of $15 (additonal photos are also $15). Obituaries of excessive length (longer than our single-column length of 15.5") will also incur an additional charge of $11/column inch for the content measuring longer than our 15.5-inch column length. Larry McGuire

Larry Richard McGuire, 80, of Hiawatha passed away March 31, 2015. A celebration of his life was held Tuesday, April 7 at St. Mark’s Lutheran Church, Marion.
Larry was born February 27, 1935 in Stanwood to Willis and Ethel McGuire. He graduated from Stanwood High School in 1953, where he played baseball and basketball. He joined the U.S. Air Force in January 1954, serving in the 91st Strategic Reconnaissance Wing at Lockbourne Air Force Base in Columbus, OH until 1958, attaining the rank of Staff Sergeant.

Lois Griffith

Lois Marie Griffith, 83, of Lansing, formerly of Hudson, died Monday, April 6, 2015 at her home in Lansing. Mass of Christian Burial was held Thursday, April 9 at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Lansing, with Rev. John Moser as the Celebrant. Burial was at Immaculate Conception Catholic Cemetery in Lansing.
Lois was born August 20, 1931 in rural Barkley Township in Iowa, the daughter of Aloysius J. and Agnes (Schaefer) Schmitz. She attended Gilbertville and St. Mary’s High School.
Lois was united in marriage to Lloyd Oliver Griffith August 30, 1952 in Canton, SD. To this union two children were born, Larry and Jan. Lois engaged in farming with her husband. In her younger years, Lois loved snowmobiling, boating, jet skiing and picnicking with her family on the river.

Donald Yohe

Donald Robert Yohe of Gilbert, AZ passed away March 30, 2015 in Chandler, AZ at the age of 95. A memorial service was held Saturday, April 4 at Falconer Funeral Home in Gilbert, AZ.
Donald was born in Clayton to George and Elsie Yohe. He was raised on the family farm near the Mississippi River in Clayton and graduated from Guttenberg High School. He served in the Civilian Conversation Corps and for over four years in the United States Army during World War II as a training sergeant in California and later in the Italian Campaign. After the War, he farmed, played minor league baseball, and then attended Bethany Lutheran College, Mankato State University and the University of Northern Iowa.

Deborah Hager

Deborah Lee Annette Schultz Hager, 65 years of age, of Waukon died unexpectedly Tuesday, March 31, 2015 at her home. The celebration of her life was held Monday, April 6 at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Postville, with Greg Hamm officiating. Debbie was buried next to her father at Postville Cemetery.
Deborah Lee Annette Schultz Hager was born January 22, 1950 in Postville. She is the daughter of Cloy W. Schultz, Jr. and Lorraine Shirley Ann (Brown) Schultz. She was baptized and confirmed at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Postville. Debbie attended Postville Community Schools and graduated from Postville High School in 1968. She pursued higher education at Waldorf College in Forest City and continued her liberal arts education at Mankato State University.

Launee Halvorson

Launee Halvorson, 74, of Waterville died peacefully, after a courageous battle with cancer, Tuesday, March 31, 2015 at her home surrounded by her loving family. She will be laid to rest in the Waterville Cemetery at a later date.
Launee Wood was born September 24, 1940 in Lehi, UT, a daughter of LeGrand and Mamie Elizabeth Wood. She was educated in Utah. She met and married Donald Halvorson of Waterville November 24, 1956 in Clearfield, UT while he was serving in the military. She traveled with Don during his service years and began raising their family of six children.

Jacob Sadler

Jacob Z. Sadler, 48, of Waukon died Sunday, March 29, 2015 at Northgate Care Center in Waukon, following a lifelong battle with myotonic dystrophy. Funeral services will be held Thursday, April 2 at 11 a.m. at St. Patrick Catholic Church in Waukon, with Fr. Jim Dubert and Deacon Mike Ward officiating. Burial will be at St. Patrick Cemetery in Monona. Friends may call from 4-8 p.m. Wednesday, April 1 at Martin Funeral Home in Waukon, where there will be a 3:45 p.m. scripture service and a 7:30 p.m. rosary.
Jacob Zachary Sadler was born May 1, 1966 in Waterloo, the son of William and Rosella (Nie) Sadler. He was confirmed at St. Patrick Catholic Church in Monona. Jacob attended River Hills School in Cedar Falls, Abner Hendrickson School in Decorah, and one year at Decorah High School, where he received a certificate of attendance. For 28 years he did training at the TASC Skill Building Center in Waukon.

Gary Snyder

Gary N. Snyder,  46,  died unexpectedly March 10, 2015 at his home in Waukon. In honoring Gary’s wishes, his body was cremated, and the family will be hosting a memorial/celebration of life gathering Sunday, March 29 at 1 p.m., with fellowship to follow. That gathering will be held at the Waukon Banquet Center, 612 Rossville Road in Waukon.
Gary was born January 21, 1969 in Independence, the son of Henry L. and Julia A. (Thompson) Snyder. He attended school at, and graduated from, Decorah High School with the Class of 1987. Following graduation, Gary worked several different jobs before settling into driving semi, which afforded him the opportunity to experience lots of interesting places and develop friendships all over the country.

Doloris Beckman

Doloris E. Beckman, 86, of Prior Lake, MN, formerly of Waukon, died Saturday, March 21, 2015 in St. Louis Park, MN. Funeral services will be held Saturday, March 28 at 1 p.m. at Zion United Church of Christ in Waukon, with Pastor Samantha Houser officiating. Burial will be at Oakland Cemetery, Waukon. Friends may call one hour before services at the church.
Doloris Esther Beckman was born March 3, 1929 in Waukon, the daughter of Otto and Esther (Hansmeier) Kosbau. She is survived by her husband, Glenn Beckman of Prior Lake, MN, and many nephews and cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents.

Noah Dietrich

Noah John Dietrich, infant son of Daren and Jenny (Harberts) Dietrich of Decorah, was stillborn Monday, March 16, 2015 at Rochester Methodist Hospital in Rochester, MN. Family graveside services were held Saturday, March 21 at Oakland Cemetery in Waukon, with Rev. Lynn G. Groe serving as the officiant.
Survivors include his parents; his paternal grandmother, Jane Dietrich of Waukon; his maternal grandparents, Deb Harberts of Decorah and Mark (Rose) Harberts of Elgin; an aunt, Darcy Dietrich of Bloomington, MN; an uncle, Jeremiah (Bethany) Harberts of Denver; his cousins, Paige, Natalie, Alyssa and Kesli Harberts; and his maternal great-grandmother, Merelyn Harberts of Hudson.
He was preceded in death by his paternal grandfather, Duane Dietrich; his paternal great-grandparents, Velmer and Alice Copp, and Erwin and Gladys Dietrich; and his maternal great-grandparents, Russell John Harberts, Elwyn Shimp, and Bill and Mary Ann Pfister.

Roland Burroughs

Roland E. Burroughs, 92, of Waukon died Monday, March 16, 2015 at his home. Funeral services were held Monday, March 23 at St. Patrick Catholic Church in Waukon, with Fr. Jim Dubert officiating. Burial was at Mt. Olivet Cemetery, Waukon.
Roland Ephriam “Sonny” Burroughs was born November 8, 1922 at the rural Dorchester home of his parents, David and Mary (Moeller) Burroughs. He was baptized and confirmed at St. Mary’s, Dorchester Catholic Church and attended school in the Dorchester area. After his schooling he worked as a farmhand for various people in the area before purchasing a farm on Bear Creek.
