Kee baseball team maintains unblemished UIC record with sweep of Ed-Co

The Kee baseball team ended up playing just one date on its schedule this past week, rainy weather claiming two other nights of competition. A Monday, June 12 doubleheader at MFL/MarMac and a Wednesday, June 14 single game at home against Clayton Ridge were both rained out, with the MFL/MarMac doubleheader being rescheduled to Friday, June 30 and the Clayton Ridge single varsity game likely not being rescheduled at this point. In between those two rained-out dates, the Hawks swept a home doubleheader from Edgewood-Colesburg rescheduled from May 30, posting victories of 3-2 and 10-0 in six innings Wednesday, June 13 over the team that had eliminated the Hawks from postseason play last season.

Even with posting another pair of wins to remain undefeated on the season the Kee softball team had a difficult week this past week, rallying around sophomore teammate Makayla Walleser and her family after their father lost his life in a tragic accident early Tuesday morning, May 30. The team made the decision not to play in the North Fayette Valley Tournament that was scheduled for this past Friday and Saturday, June 2 and 3, as those were the days of James Walleser’s visitation and funeral. The Lady Hawks did play their Thursday, June 1 home doubleheader with Clayton Ridge, with Walleser stoically taking her position at shortstop to help her team post mercy-rule victories of 10-0 in six innings and 13-0 in just three innings.

Waukon baseball team ends up on each side of mercy-rule results

Waukon baseball junior center fielder Mitchell Snitker meets the baseball with a smooth swing in the Indians’ 14-1 non-conference triumph at MFL/MarMac Wednesday, May 31. Snitker belted two hits in three at-bats in the victory, crushing the Tribe’s first homerun of the season, driving in three runs and scoring two of his own. Photo courtesy of Grant Langhus.

The Waukon baseball team had to hit the road this week, even though they were scheduled to play at home to start the week. A broken water pipe underneath the Indians’ home field forced them to have to travel to Waverly-Shell Rock Tuesday, May 30, where they were handed two mercy-rule losses in five innings, 16-6 and 10-0. The baseball Tribe bounced back to deliver one of those mercy-rule results itself, blasting MFL/MarMac on the road, 14-1 in six innings, Wednesday, May 31.

Kee baseball team posts sweep at Clayton Ridge, home split vs. Riceville

The Kee baseball team ended up with just four games this past week, having a Tuesday, May 30 home doubleheader with Edgewood-Colesburg postponed to June 13 out of respect for the tragic passing of the father of sophomore brothers and teammates Dylan and Josh Walleser earlier that day. Once they returned to the field, the Hawks did so with fairly good success, sweeping an Upper Iowa Conference pair at Clayton Ridge, 14-10 and 6-2, Thursday, June 1 before splitting a non-conference pair at home against Riceville Saturday, June 3, winning a 3-0 battle and falling by a narrow, 4-3 margin.
