Caregiver Support Group to meet at VMH

The local Caregiver Support Group meets monthly at Veterans Memorial Hospital. The meetings take place the third Monday of each month at 1:30 p.m. The next meeting will be held Monday, June 18, from 1:30-2:30 p.m. in the Large Conference Room, located on the lower level of Veterans Memorial Hospital.

This informal meeting is open to anyone who provides care and support for a family member or friend. Feel free to attend and bring a friend. This new Caregiver Support Group will continue to meet the third Monday of each month at Veterans Memorial Hospital.

VMH Auxiliary euchre marathon to be held

The Auxiliary of Veterans Memorial Hospital will be holding its monthly Euchre Marathon for all individuals of the community interested Thursday, June 21. Men and women are welcome to attend, even if not an Auxiliary member. The Euchre marathons are held the third Thursday of each month at the Senior Citizens Room at the Waukon Wellness Center.

The Auxiliary’s Euchre Marathons begin at 11:30 a.m. with dinner, if chosen.  Call Northland Agency on Aging at 877-838-8077 if choosing to eat dinner. Card playing will follow at 12:30 p.m. until approximately 2:30 p.m. Anyone wishing to stay and play cards following the Senior Citizens meal is more than welcome to do so. All proceeds go towards the Auxiliary of Veterans Memorial Hospital. Prizes will be awarded.

Anyone interested in attending, but preferring to play Bridge is also welcome to join in. It is asked that they come with their own table of four players, however.

Memorials received by Health Care Foundation

Memorials were recently received by the Veterans Memorial Health Care Foundation in memory of Don Topel by Jean Huffey, in memory of Laurayne Beisker by Roger and Jeanette Ruegnitz, in memory of Ruth Nolting by Milton Nolting and in memory of Bernell “BJ” Palas by Leslie and Ada Marie Kerndt, Jr.

Memorials were also received in memory of Danny Kiley by Jim and Linda Ryan, Jim and Jill Kiesau and Brad and Erin Berns.

In addition, memorials were also received in memory of Marie McKee by Donny and Joan Ewing, Chad and Kim Opfer, Jack and Cindy Heffern, Gwyne Kruse, Joe and Mary Kruse-Emerson and Patsy Kerndt.

A celebration with family and friends is being planned in honor of their 60th wedding anniversary.

Class of 1945 73-year reunion

The Waukon High School Class of 1945 73-year reunion was held May 19. Ozzie and Phyllis Quandahl provided the meal, drinks, dessert and hosted the reunion at their home in rural Waukon. Their daughter, Julie Schulte, helped with the serving. The Class of 1945 appreciates the kindness and hospitality shown by Ozzie and Phyllis Quandahl and Julie Schulte.

Birth announcement: Martin

Kati Schultz and Thomas Martin of Postville announce the birth of their daughter, Makenna Marie Martin, born May 22, 2018 at Veterans Memorial Hospital in Waukon. She weighed 5 lbs. 5 ozs. and measured 19-1/2 inches in length at the time of her birth.
