April 25 panel discussion will introduce Community to Community program to public

Thursday, April 25 will offer community members an opportunity to learn more about the Community to Community program coordinated by Iowa State University (ISU) and being implemented by the Waukon Works Steering Committee to aid in the revitalization of the Waukon community. Members of the ISU Community to Community staff will be on hand to introduce the project and answer any questions.

Northgate Care Center to begin construction for new therapy addition

Northgate Care Center in Waukon has announced plans for the construction of a new therapy addition to its current facility. Ground breaking for the expansion project is planned to occur as early as April of this year.

Dispose of unused medications at April 27 event

Area residents are invited to safely dispose of unused or expired medications at a collection event scheduled for Saturday, April 27 in Waukon. The event is being held at the Waukon Fire Station, located in the first block of First Avenue NE, and will take place from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. that Saturday.

Order memorial bricks now for placement in Allamakee County Veterans Memorial by Memorial Day

With Memorial Day approaching, the Allamakee County Veterans Memorial Committee would like to remind those interested that orders for individual memorial bricks are still being taken for placement within the Allamakee County Veterans Memorial at the Allamakee County Courthouse in Waukon.

Waukon Trees Forever receives grant funding from Alliant Energy, Black Hills Energy for annual tree planting

Volunteers and community leaders in Waukon are preparing to plant trees that will provide more shade, save energy and beautify the community through the statewide Trees Forever effort, along with Black Hills Energy's Power of Trees program and the Branching Out program by Alliant Energy.
The Waukon Trees Forever Chapter was awarded a $2,000 grant from the Branching Out program to plant trees in Waukon and a $2,417.15 grant from the Power of Trees program to plant trees near the new soccer fields on the west edge of Waukon near the Wellness Center.

NICC Waukon Center to host Open House April 22

The Northeast Iowa Community College (NICC) Waukon Center is holding a free open house Monday, April 22 to offer community members opportunities to learn more about academic programs and services offered through the college’s center, located at 1220 Third Avenue NW in Waukon.
Waukon-area community members are encouraged to visit the center anytime between 4-7 p.m. April 22 to learn more about academic programs at NICC, how to apply for financial aid, continuing education coursework offered at the center and short-term certification programs that can enhance career marketability.

Waukon Lions Club Variety Show is on stage Saturday

The Waukon Lions Club 24th  Annual Variety Show will be held Saturday, April 6 at the Waukon High School Auditorium. Doors for the event open at 6 p.m., with performances beginning at 7 p.m.
Tickets are available at Farmers & Merchants Savings Bank, Waukon State Bank, Fidelity Bank, Hartig Drug, or from any Waukon Lions Club member.
