National Prescription Drop-Off Day yields 711 pounds of unused medications for NE Iowa Drug Task Force

The Northeast Iowa Drug Task Force, in its quest to make communities safer and drug free, conducted its latest Prescription Drop-Off Day Event. With the assistance of Helping Services of Northeast Iowa and Substance Abuse Services for Clayton County, the Northeast Iowa Drug Task Force participated in the National Prescription Drop-Off Day Event Saturday, April 27.

Volunteers can help prepare Camp Tahigwa Girl Scout Camp for its upcoming busy season, and then take part in Fun Day

Those willing and able to get a little dirty for a good cause are invited to help out the Girl Scouts of Eastern Iowa and Western Illinois and have a little fun in the process. Camping season is right around the corner, and the Girl Scouts are seeking help to ensure Camp Tahigwa looks its best for the Girl Scouts staying there this summer.

Waukon Trees Forever tree planting event is postponed to May 4

The Waukon Trees Forever Chapter annual tree planting event originally scheduled for this Saturday, April 27 had to be postponed to this Saturday, May 4. Volunteers are asked to bring shovels, rakes and gloves and meet at the Waukon High School parking lot at 8 a.m.
Trees will be planted along the new soccer fields located on the west edge of Waukon, near the high school. For more information, contact Kenneth Olson, MD of Waukon Trees Forever at 563-568-4612.

Allamakee Community Players, Inc. to hold auditions for "Peter Pan" stage production scheduled for this summer

Allamakee Community Players, Inc. will be holding auditions for its upcoming production, the Carolyn Leigh and Mark Charlap musical "Peter Pan," produced by special arrangement with Samuel French, Inc. The auditions are scheduled for Sunday, May 5 from 1-3 p.m. and Tuesday, May 7 from 6-8 p.m. and will be held at St. John's Lutheran Church Fellowship Hall, located at 8 Fifth Street SW in Waukon. Callbacks are scheduled for Thursday, May 9.

Public introduced to ISU Community to Community program

Members of the Waukon area community gathered in the Community Room at Farmers and Merchants Savings Bank in Waukon Thursday evening, April 25 to learn more about the Community to Community program coordinated by Iowa State University (ISU) designed to address a revitalization process for the Waukon community. The event begins a two-year process during which ISU staff will first identify the needs of the Waukon community using economic analysis and community surveys before beginning to suggest strategies to enhance economic development.

Kody Blake earns Eagle Scout rank; Court of Honor to take place this Sunday

Kody Blake of Boy Scout Troop 64 in Waukon will be honored at an Eagle Court of Honor this Sunday, April 28 at St. Patrick Catholic Church. Blake appeared before the Eagle Board of Review in October 2012 and was awarded the rank of Eagle Scout. He is one of approximately four percent of all Boy Scouts nationally who attain the rank of Eagle Scout.

Order memorial bricks by April 30 for placement in Allamakee County Veterans Memorial by Memorial Day

With Memorial Day approaching, the Allamakee County Veterans Memorial Committee would like to remind those interested that orders for individual memorial bricks are still being taken for placement within the Allamakee County Veterans Memorial at the Allamakee County Courthouse in Waukon.
