Applications to Allamakee County Flood & Storm Relief Fund due Sept. 1

Allamakee County has established a Flood & Storm Relief Fund to assist area residents and business owners who had to replace water heaters and/or furnaces or other heating units as a result of flooding that took place during the weekend of June 22-23. The reimbursement program will allot a maximum amount of $500 per household or business, with receipts or other proof of purchase required to participate in the program.

WEDC launches new "Park Place" housing development project in southwest Waukon

Work has begun on a new housing development project in Waukon along both sides of Second Street SW in the northeast corner of the Waukon Industrial Park. Coordinated by Waukon Economic Development (WEDC), the project area named “Park Place” is located near the Waukon City Park and will bring approximately 20 new buildable lots to the city.

Allamakee Driftless Safari runs through Labor Day

Area residents and visitors have less than two weeks to join the Allamakee Economic Development and Tourism for a summer adventure exploring the historical, cultural and natural treasures of Allamakee County. The 2013 Driftless Safari program will run through Labor Day, with 20 exciting places to visit and learn about.

Northeast Iowa Rugby Club makes flood relief donation

Matt Simon of the Northeast Iowa Rugby Club recently presented a donation to Laura Olson, Executive Director of Allamakee County Economic Development, for the Allamakee Flood and Storm Relief Fund. The Northeast Iowa Rugby Club is a newer organization with members from northeast Iowa and southeastern Minnesota. Bus tour planned for August 6 to view frac sand mining facilities

The Allamakee County Protectors are sponsoring a bus tour of frac sand mining, processing and transportation facilities in southwest Wisconsin Tuesday, August 6. Members of the general public are invited to reserve a seat on that bus tour, which will involve a guided tour of those facilities by an area resident with experience and knowledge about the frac sand mining process and its impact on his home area in Wisconsin.

First Annual Trekking for Trails Bike Ride is Aug. 3

The first annual Trekking for Trails Bike Ride will kick off Saturday, August 3 at the Waukon City Park. Registration and sponsorship opportunities are ongoing for the ride that will work in conjunction with Waukon Corn Days for an expanded, annual, community event.
The bike ride will start at 9 a.m. and includes a 25-mile ride through scenic Allamakee County. Registration will take place from 8-9 a.m. and the cost includes participation in the bike ride and a t-shirt.
