And then I wrote

... that I have noted here before that I am not a big fan of professional football, but I did my best Sunday to watch the pro championship game. Not for the football, but for the heavily hyped commercials, and a possible opportunity to see a little of the Jacksonville, Florida area.
They lost me at halftime.
The commercials did not impress me, and the halftime entertainment was going to be provided by an aging Beatle who I did not appreciate the first time around. And about the only thing I saw of Jacksonville was the cruise ships brought in to provide additional rooms.

The People Business

DES MOINES - There's a section on Iowa's income tax returns where taxpayers have the opportunity to donate $1.50 to their favorite major political party.
True, many of us don't have a favorite party. And most of us would rather use six quarters to buy a couple candy bars, a cup of coffee or perhaps a tasty burrito.
But thousands of Iowans see it differently. Last year their $1.50 donations added up to more than $143,000 for the state Democrat and Republican parties.
That's a lot of burritos. But that's not exactly how they spent it.

John Deere Lover Takes Last Tractor Ride

VOLANT, Pa. - "He loved those machines," said Glenn's daughter, Ruth Wigton, of Volant. "They never let him down."

Glenn was an electrician who worked for years in the Slippery Rock University maintenance department. But his first love was the dairy farm that he worked with his father and, later, his children. Glenn owned several John Deere tractors, buying his first in 1935. When he retired in 1977 at age 72, he continued to mow 20 of his acres and land owned by five neighbors with a tractor.

Highlights from the Senate

Several noteworthy events occurred this past week that will influence the legislation we consider in the coming two months. The Governor submitted his budget, an education initiative was announced and an economic development initiative was received from the House. In addition, the Governor's task force continued looking at property taxes, governance and schools.

Letter to the Editor

Snowmobilers have no respect for personal property. There are about 5 or 6 that are using my front lawn for a trail. There was a notice on TV to respect people's property but they don't care.
There is a lot of room on the east side of Hwy. 18 for them to ride. They cross over above the flag pole and below it and below the bush by the driveway. I don't want my lawn tore up because of them.
Maybe the city council should have a meeting with anybody what has a snowmobile and explain the rules to them. I am sick and tired of this.
