BROTHER LEO VISITS SINGAPORE, ISLE OF PROSPERITY

Our third stop in Indonesia was to have been Nais Island, Sumantra to visit the Tulo Tulo tribe who have, until just recently, been living a stone age existence. Unfortunately for the ship and fortunate for us, we were unable to take on enough fuel at Semarang (Java). Nais was not a refueling station. The alternative was Singapore.
Singapore is an island that lies one degree north of the Equator at the southern tip of the Malay Peninsula. It is linked to Malaysia by a causeway. Singapore lies at the crossroads of Indonesia, Thailand and the Philippines.

His wife, Ione, adds, "There was a pail of water right up there next to the Christmas tree, which was lit with candles. Just as soon as the service was over, the candles were put out with the water."
