BARBARA J. STURM

Barbara J. (Tuttle) Sturm, 73, died Monday, July 24, 2000, at Arbor Hospice in Ann Arbor, MI, following a battle with cancer.
Barbara was born June 3, 1927, in Cedar Rapids, the daughter of Royal and Hazel (Gilchrist) Tuttle. She grew up in Norway, IA, where she lived from 1927 through 1944. June 12, 1948, she married Harold E. Sturm in Cedar Rapids. Since 1950, she has been an Ann Arbor, MI, resident.

JACQUELINE BELL

Jacqueline (Toppert) Bell was born Nov. 19, 1937, in Moline, IL, the daughter of Earl and Mabel (Powell) Toppert. She married William Bell Dec. 3, 1955, in Morrison, IL.
She worked at the YMCA until her retirement in 1998. She was an avid walker and belonged to three walking clubs. She was also a member of a quilters' guild.

CLARENCE F. HAGEMAN

Clarence F. Hageman, 80, of Fort Atkinson, passed away Wednesday, July 26, 2000, at Winneshiek County Memorial Hospital in Decorah, the result of cancer.
Funeral services were held Saturday, July 29, at St. John's Catholic Church in Fort Atkinson. Burial followed in St. John's Cemetery, also in Fort Atkinson, with full military rites by the American Legion-VFW. Chekal Funeral Home of Fort Atkinson handled funeral arrangements.
Clarence was born Oct. 7, 1919, in Fort Atkinson. He attended St. John's Nepomucene Catholic School.

DARLENE E. MEYER

Funeral services for Mrs. Richard (Darlene) Meyer were held Wednesday, July 26, 2000, at 10:30 a.m. at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Postville. The Rev. Robert Hupp officiated.
Marian Schutte was the organist and Kim Schutte was the soloist. The Schutte Funeral and Cremation Service of Postville was in charge of arrangements. Burial followed funeral services in Postville Cemetery.

RETIRED COL. CHARLES M. BERGESON

Retired Col. Charles M. Bergeson, 77, died July 8, 2000, in Colorado Springs, CO. He owned and managed Travel Travel in Erindale Square. He also served in the U.S. Air Force for 33 years.
Charles was born Nov. 14, 1922, in Allamakee County, the son of Almer and Olga (Horgen) Bergeson. He graduated from Spring Grove High School, MN, in 1940, and was married Aug. 27, 1949, to Bette A. Persinger.
Charles is survived by his wife; two brothers, Howard Bergeson of Waukon and Almo Bergeson of Columbia Falls, MT; and one sister, Delores Higgason of Alexandria, VA.

ELVIRA LUCILLE BRANDSMEIER

Elvira L. Brandsmeier, 93, of Waukon, died Wednesday, July 26, 2000, at Good Samaritan Center in Waukon, following a brief illness.
Funeral services were held Saturday, July 29, at 11 a.m. at Zion United Church of Christ in Waukon. The Rev. Lynn G. Groe officiated. Burial followed in Oakland Cemetery in Waukon. Martin Funeral Home handled arrangements.

ANN CONNOLLY

Ann J. Connolly, 84, of Waukon, died Friday, July 21, 2000, at Veterans Memorial Hospital in Waukon.
Funeral services were held July 26 at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Waukon. Fr. Alan Schmitt officiated. Burial was in Good Shephard Memorial Gardens, Ocala, FL.
Casketbearers were Jim Clarke, Ed Lauerman, LeRoy McCabe, Rupert Caballero, Jim Klenske and Bill Votsmier.

ROBERT WEBER

Robert L. Weber, 70, died Friday, July 21, 2000, at Covenant Medical Center in Waterloo.
Funeral services were held July 24 at Bethel Presbyterian Church under the direction of the Rev. Neil Mulock.
Interment followed in Waterloo Cemetery in Waterloo. Flag folding rites were conducted by VFW Post #1623.
Casketbearers were Mark Lang, Kyle Weber, Jarrid Lang, Jeff Weber, Bill Weber and Bob Weber. Honorary casketbearers were Cody Lang and Justin Collingwood.

DALE BECKER

Dale B. Becker, 69, of Bullhead City, AZ, died Tuesday, July 18, 2000, at the home of his daughter, Debra Schaefer, following a brief illness.
Memorial services were held July 21 at the United Methodist Church in El Segundo, CA, and July 28 at First Presbyterian Church in Waukon. Burial took place at the Veterans Cemetery in Riverside, CA, as Dale was a U.S. veteran.
Dale was born Dec. 5, 1930, in Waukon to parents Edward and Mattie (Winke) Becker. Dec. 28, 1950, he married Bobbie Evans. To the couple, two children were born.

LOAN AGREEMENTS OPEN THE DOOR TO THOUSANDS OF ALLAMAKEE COUNTY AMERICAN INDIAN ARTIFACTS

After three years of hard work, the Allamakee County Historical Society has successfully negotiated several loan agreements that permit the display of American Indian artifacts and regalia found in Allamakee County.
These agreements, in cooperation with Iowa State Archaeologist's Office, Luther College and Effigy Mounds National Monument, permit the Allamakee County Historical Society to borrow and display the loaned artifacts in the American Indian Room in the Old Courthouse Museum.
