.. .that I am convinced the world would be a much less interesting place if we did not share it with animals and birds, and there is evidence lots of people agree with that.
There is a video that made the rounds recently which should be shown to all grade school children being taught all that psychobabble about bullying. It shows the direct approach which many of us elders were taught about bullying... confront it forcefully.

To the Editor:
Your May 14th edition had an inspiring front page story about the Corner of Hope Foods Resource Bank. With participation of a few generous people in our community, this group has contributed over $300,000 to various charities for the purpose of alleviating world hunger. Much of this amount has come from farmers donating the proceeds of some of their acreage annually to the Resource Bank.

... that a liberal columnist whose efforts I used to read often quoted advice his father gave him: “Remember, they are all out to get you!”
That came to mind a few times while I was reading another book lent to me, The Last Train From Hiroshima,  by Charles Pellagrino, published by Henry Holt and Co. in 2010.

To the Editor:
I would like to commend our volunteer fire department. We have a great team of firefighters who risk their lives every time they put on their gear and climb onto those trucks. I thank them.
When a company relocates and gets a 10 year tax rebate, does this amount to over a half million dollars, then wanting more, that would go a long way for our new fire station. Did they bring in new jobs? Did I hear that Allamakee has the highest rate of unemployment in the state?

The 2014 session has come to an end while only going over the deadline by eight days. This is an improvement over the past few years with sessions going well past the allotted days. The House finished up business after a marathon day that started on April 30th and ended at around 5 a.m. Thursday morning.

... that if there was any doubt that the day of the itinerant snake oil salesman was over, one need only listen to television commercials to have proof that isn’t so.
Some recent examples I noted.
Lard from a rendered flightless Australian bird, the emu, is effective in treating aches and pains.
A product made from a French cantaloupe will cure skin problems.
Another panacea is a product made from Okinawan soybeans, but I missed what that is intended to cure.

She describes herself as “totally that mom,” a seminary-trained, stay-at-home-parent of two boys who lives in New Jersey with her husband, a Lutheran pastor.

To the Editor:
Reading most of the Supervisors minutes made me think of the past when the Dorchester school was closing and many pondered what to do with the building. I suggested the Board contact someone to see if there was interest in opening/operating a place for alcoholic women. There are so many socialites who have this problem and if they knew there was a place to go with privacy, beautiful surrounding, healthy atmosphere, etc. The Supervisors just looked at me.
