Obituaries are published in The Standard for a $45 fee and can be brought to the office at 15 First Street NW in Waukon, mailed to PO Box 286, Waukon IA 52172, or e-mailed to news@waukonstandard.com. Photos may be included for an additional charge of $15 (additonal photos are also $15). Obituaries of excessive length (longer than our single-column length of 15.5") will also incur an additional charge of $11/column inch for the content measuring longer than our 15.5-inch column length. Dorothy Van Brocklin

Dorothy Van Brocklin, 91, of New Albin passed away Thursday, November 12, 2015 at Thornton Manor in Lansing. Funeral Services were held Tuesday, November 17 at the New Albin Community Center in New Albin, with Pastor Paul Burgess as the Officiant. Interment will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, November 18 at Rose Hill Cemetery, Greene.
Dorothy, the daughter of Henry and Ruth (Tindel) Stube, was born January 2, 1924 in Greene. She graduated from Waukon High School. Dorothy was united in marriage with Dwight Joseph Van Brocklin in 1956. To this union, two sons were born. Dwight preceded her in death November 17, 1969.

Raymond Hoffman

Raymond Alfred Hoffmann, age 84, passed away at Northgate Care Center in Waukon Saturday, November 7, 2015. Interment will be in Oakland Cemetery in Waukon.
Raymond, the son of John and Anna (Weimerskirch) Hoffmann, was born at home on the Jackson County farm of his parents June 6, 1931 in LaMotte. He was baptized and confirmed at St. Theresa Catholic Church in LaMotte and attended Centerville Elementary School in rural LaMotte.
Ray began his adult life working at a packing plant in Savannah, IL. He worked there for 10 weeks and came home to work on the farm with his parents, where they raised pigs and sheep. In 1957, Ray went to work at Dubuque Pack until his retirement November 1, 1981.

Harvey Olsen

Harvey Laverne Olsen, 72, of Lansing died Thursday, November 12, 2015 at Living Center East Nursing Home in Cedar Rapids. Memorial Services were held Monday, November 16 at the Thornburg-Grau Funeral Home and Cremation Service of Lansing. Burial followed in Oak Hill Cemetery, Lansing.
Harvey was born January 25, 1943 to Berger and Jeannette (Johnson) Olsen in Lansing. He graduated in 1962 from Eastern Allamakee High School. He was united in marriage with Shirley Burns in 1964, and three children were born to this union. Harvey worked as a custodian for the Lansing Schools for over 30 years.

Carolyn Welsh

Carolyn M. Welsh, 74, of Waukon died Saturday, November 14, 2015 at Gundersen Lutheran Hospital in La Crosse, WI surrounded by her family. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, November 18 at 11 a.m. at St. Patrick Catholic Church in Waukon, with Rev. Msgr. Cletus Hawes, Fr. Donald Hawes, Rev. Msgr. Ed Lechtenberg and Deacon Mike Ward officiating. Burial will be at St. Mary's Lycurgus Cemetery, rural Waukon. Friends may call from 3-7 p.m. Tuesday, November 17 at Martin Funeral Home in Waukon, where there will be a 2:45 p.m. scripture service.
Carolyn Marie Welsh was born March 25, 1941 in La Crosse, WI, the daughter of Walter E. and Emily M. (Kehr) Beck. She was baptized at St. Francis Hospital in La Crosse, WI and later in life was confirmed at St. Mary’s Lycurgus Catholic Church in rural Waukon.

Elizabeth "Sue" Hogan

Elizabeth “Sue” Hogan, 95, of Lansing died Friday, November 13, 2015 at Thornton Manor in Lansing. Funeral Services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, November 19 at United Methodist Church, Lansing, with Rev. Kevin Smith as the Officiant. Interment will follow at Oak Hill Cemetery, Lansing. Visitation will be Thursday, November 19 from 12:30-2 p.m. at United Methodist Church, Lansing.
Sue was born November 3, 1920 to Edward and Amelia (Geisler) Livingston in Elkader. She attended school at Mar-Mac in McGregor.
Sue was united in marriage with Floyd Fred Hogan January 27, 1938. Two sons were born to this union, Fred and Ron. She worked at the Button Factory in Lansing for many years. Sue enjoyed gardening, canning, playing cards, bingo, fishing, listening to music in La Crosse, WI and, most of all, she loved spending time with her grandchildren.

Calvin Langford

Calvin Raymond Langford, 76, of Lansing died Thursday, October 29, 2015 at Gundersen Lutheran Health Systems, La Crosse, WI surrounded by his family.
Funeral Services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, November 14, 2015 at Norway Lutheran Church, located at 18829 200th Street, St. Olaf. Rev. Marshall Hahn will be the officiant. Burial will be in Norway Lutheran Church Cemetery. A time of food and fellowship will be held in the church community hall after the funeral ceremony. All are welcome to join.
Visitation will be held Friday, November 13 from 4-7 p.m. at Thornburg-Grau Funeral Home and Cremation Service, Lansing and one hour before the services at the church Saturday.

Mable Terry

Mable Terry, 92, of Madison, WI, formerly of Lansing, died Monday, November 2, 2015 in Madison, WI. Funeral Services were held Friday, November 6 at United Methodist Church, Lansing. Burial followed at Oak Hill Cemetery, Lansing.
Mable Alberta was born July 16, 1923 to Albert and Sfa (Larson) Lankford in Lansing. She graduated from Lansing High School in 1939.
Mable was united in marriage with Richard Terry in 1942 at Las Vegas, NV. She was a homemaker, a manager for Banker’s Life in Des Moines, and was employed at WEA in Madison, WI. Mable belonged to several clubs, including Eastern Star/White Shrine, was very active in the United Methodist Church and was a lifelong member of USO.

Virginia Thomson

Virginia L. Thomson, 86, of Waukon died Saturday, August 29, 2015 at Good Samaritan Society in Waukon. Memorial services will be held Saturday, November 14 at 11 a.m. at First Presbyterian Church in Waukon, with Pastor Grant VanderVelden officiating. Private family burial has already been held at Oakland Cemetery, Waukon.
Martin Funeral Home in Waukon is handling arrangements for the family. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to P.E.O. women’s scholarship funds via P.E.O. Chapter EK c/o Caroll Schreiber, Treasurer, 1942 French Creek Road, Lansing, IA 52151.

Jerome "Jerry" Welsh

Jerome “Jerry” E. Welsh, 74, of Lansing passed away peacefully with his wife and loved ones by his side Tuesday, November 3, 2015 at Thornton Manor in Lansing. Memorial services were held Saturday, November 7 at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Lansing, with Fr. John Moser and Rev. Msgr. Ed Lechtenberg officiating. Burial with military honors was at St. Mary's Lycurgus Cemetery, rural Waukon. Martin Funeral Home in Waukon assisted the family with arrangements.
Jerome "Jerry" Edward  Welsh was born October 13, 1941 in La Crosse, WI, the son of Patrick and Mary (Zoll) Welsh. He was baptized and confirmed at St. Mary's Lycurgus Catholic Church in rural Waukon. Jerry attended a one room school house in the French Creek area and graduated from St. Patrick Catholic High School in Waukon in 1959. He served in the United States Army from 1964 to 1966.

Verna Cagley

Verna Cagley, 85, of Cedar Falls died Sunday, October 25, 2015 at Cedar Falls Health Care Center. A private family service will be held at a later date.
Verna Mae Cagley was born May 10, 1930 to James and Esther (Buehler) Volker in Waterloo. She worked as a bartender in numerous bars throughout Evansdale, and owned Tollgate Bar in Dunkerton. Verna was known for her potato salad. She enjoyed knitting, gardening, dancing, fishing and wintering in Arizona. Verna especially enjoyed feeding and watching hummingbirds in the summertime. She loved spending time with her family and friends.
