Obituaries are published in The Standard for a $45 fee and can be brought to the office at 15 First Street NW in Waukon, mailed to PO Box 286, Waukon IA 52172, or e-mailed to news@waukonstandard.com. Photos may be included for an additional charge of $15 (additonal photos are also $15). Obituaries of excessive length (longer than our single-column length of 15.5") will also incur an additional charge of $11/column inch for the content measuring longer than our 15.5-inch column length. Alvin Hanson

Alvin M. Hanson, 82, of Waukon died Thursday, January 28, 2016 at Northgate Care Center in Waukon. Funeral services were held Monday, February 1 at St. John's Lutheran Church in Waukon with Rev. Lynn Groe officiating. Burial with military honors was at Oakland Cemetery, Waukon.
Alvin Martin Hanson was born April 25, 1933 in Waukon, the son of Carl J. and Josephine Hanson. He was baptized and confirmed at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Waukon, and attended Hanson rural country school. Alvin served in the United States Army from 1953 until 1955, spending time in Germany.
September 8, 1962, he married Lyla Runice in La Crescent, MN. He was a mechanic for John Deere and Sweeney's DX, both in Waukon. Alvin also hauled rock for Bresnahan Construction and managed the Village Motel.
He was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church and the VFW. Alvin enjoyed spending time with his family, watching old war movies and westerns, and working on cars.

Clarence Everman

Clarence Harlan Everman, 97, of Postville died Monday morning, January 25, 2016 at Ossian Senior Hospice in Ossian. Funeral Services were held Friday, January 29 at St. Paul Lutheran Church, Postville, with Rev. Jack Gannett as the Officiant. Burial followed at the Postville Cemetery in Postville with Military Rites.
Clarence was born August 14, 1918 to William and Emma (Wegner) Everman on the family farm in Postville. Clarence was baptized and confirmed at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Postville. He attended Postville High School.
Clarence served in the U.S. Army in World War II and was awarded medals, of which one was the Purple Heart from 209 days of combat in the Battle of the Bulge, two Bronze Stars, the Good Conduct Medal and the European African Middle Eastern Medal.

Mary Delaney

Mary Delaney, 91, of Waukon died Tuesday, January 26, 2016 at Good Samaritan Center in Waukon. Funeral services were held Saturday, January 30 at St. Patrick Catholic Church in Waukon, with Rev. Msgr. Cletus Hawes, Fr. Donald Hawes and Deacon Mike Ward officiating. Burial was at Mt. Olivet Cemetery, Waukon.
Mary Delaney was born January 14, 1925 in rural Harpers Ferry, the daughter of Edward and Nellie (Manning) Revoir. She was baptized and confirmed at Immaculate Conception Wexford Catholic Church in rural Lansing and graduated from Harpers Ferry High School in 1943.
August 29, 1946, she married Lester Delaney at Immaculate Conception Wexford Catholic Church. Mary was a bookkeeper for Farm Service and JC Penney, both in Waukon. She and Lester owned and operated the Dari-O in Waukon for three years.

Jeff Kloster

Jeff Kloster, 34, of Overland Park, KS, formerly of Marengo, died Wednesday, January 13, 2016. Funeral services were held Monday, January 18 at Trinity Lutheran Church, Walford, with the Rev. Travis Borkosky officiating. Burial was at Marengo Cemetery.
Jeffrey John Kloster was born March 26, 1981 in Mason City, the son of John and Beth Klenske Kloster. He graduated from Iowa Valley High School with the Class of 1999. He graduated with a BA degree in Mathematics from Central College in Pella in 2003 and graduated from Iowa State University in 2005 with a degree in mechanical engineering.
He made his home in Overland Park, KS, where he was employed with Black and Veach, an engineering consulting firm. He worked six years with the energy department, and recently as marketing manager-major projects.

Clarice Larsen

Clarice Mae Larsen, age 84, of Lancaster, CA, formerly of Waukon, passed away December 25, 2015 at her home. She was born May 17, 1931 in Waukon, and grew up and attended school in Waukon. She lived in the Antelope Valley in California for 56 years.
Clarice was preceded in death by her husband, Victor Larsen. She is survived by her son, Ron (Meg) Larsen of Lancaster, CA; her daughter, Debbie Slaton of Lancaster, CA; her grandchildren, Jacob Larsen, and Amber, Justin and Daniel Slaton; and her great-grandchildren, Alisha Bounds, Elijah, Corban and Nekoda Slaton, and Franki Redfield.

Randy Russell

Randy Alan Russell, age 59, of Ridgeway died Sunday, January 24, 2016. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, January 28 at Peace Lutheran Church in Ridgeway.  Burial will be in Oakland Cemetery, Waukon at a later date. Visitation will be held Wednesday, January 27 from 4-7 p.m. at Hindt-Hudek Funeral Home, 404 North Elm Street in Cresco. In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested.
Randy was born in Waukon September 9, 1956 to Edward “Tuck” and Ethel (Haerer) Easton. He attended Waukon High School. June 26, 1993 he married Sue Marhoul at Peace Lutheran Church in Ridgeway. Randy was an avid Chicago Bears fan and enjoyed watching NASCAR.

Donald Sires

Sunday, January 24, 2016, Donald Harold Sires, age 84, of Enumclaw, WA accepted God’s invitation to come home at 1:55 a.m. A private military burial was held Friday, January 29 at Tahoma National Cemetery in Kent, WA with a celebration of Don’s life following at Weeks’ Enumclaw Funeral Home in Enumclaw, WA.
Don was born May 24, 1931 to Alvin James “Bud” and Lillian Alma Welper Sires in New Albin. He graduated from New Albin High School, joined the Navy and served our country. Don graduated from Virginia Tech in 1959 with a B.S. in Business Administration. He began his career representing college textbook publishers, traveling several states.

James "Jim" Moose

James “Jim” Moose, 55, of Monona died Saturday, January 23, 2016 at Veterans Memorial Hospital in Waukon. Funeral Services were held Thursday, January 28 at Living Faith United Methodist Parish, Monona, with Rev. Kim A. Gates as the Officiant. Burial followed in Smithfield Cemetery, rural Monona.
James Ernest was born December 11, 1960 to Albert and Marilyn (Timmerman) Moose in Waukon. He was baptized July 16, 1961 at Pilgrim EUB Church in Monona. He was confirmed April 7, 1974 at Garden City United Methodist Church in Monona. He graduated from MFL High School in 1979.
Jim was united in marriage with Lesa Reimer September 21, 1985 at Peace United Church of Christ in Elkader. Two sons were born to this union, Jarred and Jordan.

Rodney R. “Occo” Fink, 78, of Waukon died Wednesday, January 20, 2016 at Mayo Clinic Health System in La Crosse, WI. Funeral services were held Monday, January 25 at St. Patrick Catholic Church in Waukon, with Rev. Msgr. Cletus Hawes, Fr. Donald Hawes and Deacon Mike Ward officiating. Burial was at St. Mary's Lycurgus Cemetery, rural Waukon.
Rodney Ray "Occo" Fink was born December 7, 1937 in Dorchester to Freeman and Velma (Smith) Fink. He was baptized at Dorchester Methodist Church and confirmed at Grace Methodist in New Albin. Occo graduated from New Albin High School.

Abel Ludeking

Abel Wyatt (Yearous) Ludeking, five-day-old son of Clint and Sonya (Decker) Ludeking of Waukon, died in his parents' arms at Gundersen Lutheran Hospital in La Crosse, WI Monday, January 18, 2016. After fighting from complications at the time of his birth, he gently and quietly passed into the arms of Jesus. Private family graveside services will be held in Oakland Cemetery in Waukon, with Pastor Carol Bjerke officiating.
Abel holds the apple of their eyes and they awaited his arrival with great anticipation. In his short, few days on this earth, he proved through and through that he was a fighter, but with such a sweet face and curly, strawberry-blonde hair. He melted the hearts of the many who were blessed to meet him, and will be greatly missed.
