Obituaries are published in The Standard for a $45 fee and can be brought to the office at 15 First Street NW in Waukon, mailed to PO Box 286, Waukon IA 52172, or e-mailed to news@waukonstandard.com. Photos may be included for an additional charge of $15 (additonal photos are also $15). Obituaries of excessive length (longer than our single-column length of 15.5") will also incur an additional charge of $11/column inch for the content measuring longer than our 15.5-inch column length. Lewis Ebner

Lewis W. J. Ebner, 93, of rural Lansing died Thursday, July 2, 2015 at Good Samaritan Center in Waukon. A celebration of life will be held Saturday, July 25 from 2-4 p.m. at the Farm Bureau Building in Waukon. A family graveside service will be held at a later date.
Lewis Walter Jacob Ebner was born September 6, 1921 at home on the family farm to Walter and Selma (Ashbacher) Ebner. He attended country schools and graduated from Waukon High School in 1939.
June 4, 1952, he was united in marriage to Clara Brewer at French Creek Methodist Church. Lewis was a lifelong farmer who enjoyed his Black Angus cattle and watching the crops grow. Lewis thoroughly enjoyed visiting with family, friends and neighbors, and going on rides in the country. He also enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren.

Ted Bodley

Ted H. Bodley, 94, of Waukon died Saturday, July 18, 2015 at Northgate Care Center in Waukon. Memorial services will be held Thursday, July 23 at 1 p.m. at Martin Funeral Home in Waukon, with Richard Holliday officiating. Martin Funeral Home in Waukon is handling arrangements for the family. In lieu of flowers memorials may be directed to Allamakee County 4-H.
Ted Harvey Bodley was born February 6, 1921 in Marshalltown; his parents were Willis and Harriett (Laird) Bodley. He attended country school in the Newton area and the Newton High School in Newton. He farmed with his parents.
October 26, 1941, he married Betty Tipton of Baxter in Unionville, MO. Ted and Betty farmed near Baxter, Maynard and Postville before moving to Ludlow Township in rural Waukon, where they raised crops and Black Angus cattle. He retired from working with his cattle at the age of 90.

Lavona Meiners

Lavona S. Meiners, 85, of Caledonia, MN passed away Thursday, July 16, 2015 at Green Lea Manor in Mabel, MN. Memorial services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, July 22 at Immanuel Lutheran Church, Caledonia, MN. Rev. Steven E. Meyer will officiate. Private family burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4-7 p.m. Tuesday and from 10 a.m. until the time of service Wednesday, both at Immanuel Lutheran Church. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to ABLE Inc., ABC Works or Camp Winnebago.
Lavona was born January 10, 1930 in Pipestone County, MN to Edward and Lily (Rasmussen) Kuhlman. At an early age, her family moved to Moose Lake, MN, where Lavona attended Moose Lake High School. In February of 1947, she married Edward Holland and together they had four sons, Richard, Daniel, Roger and Michael. Edward passed away November 19, 1960 due to an automobile accident.

Elizabeth Thomson

Elizabeth Jean Thomson, age 64, died peacefully in her Jefferson home in the early morning hours of July 14, 2015. Funeral services were held at the First United Methodist Church in Jefferson Monday, July 20 with a private interment.
Elizabeth was born October 4, 1950 near Waukon to Lester “Bill” and Ann Laurayne (Guider) Thomson. June 12, 1983, Elizabeth married James William Hanson. They lived in Coralville for many years, where their beloved daughter, Jennifer, was born, and they helped raise James’ children, Catherine, John, and David.
Elizabeth had an extraordinary and rewarding career that took her from being a nurse specializing in labor and delivery; to becoming a genetic counselor, eventually founding an international group for nurses in genetics; to two decades as a program director for the National Human Genome Research Institute’s Ethical, Legal and Social Implications Research Division.

Boyd Groezinger

Boyd G. Groezinger, 94, of Waukon died Friday, July 10, 2015 at Northgate Care Center in Waukon. Memorial services will be held at a later date. Friends may leave online condolences for his family at the Martin Funeral Home website at www.martinfunerals.com.
Boyd Gahlin Groezinger was born January 27, 1921 in Waukon. He was the only child of Edward T. and Olga (Jeglum) Groezinger. Boyd’s mother died when he was just six years old. After graduating from Waukon High School, Boyd joined the Merchant Marines, a part of the U.S. Coast Guard. He served on several ships during WWII and saw the world visiting ports from Australia to Poland.

Helen Haberichter

Helen J. Haberichter, 82, of Waukon died Thursday, July 9, 2015 at Good Samaritan Center in Waukon. Funeral services were held Monday, July 13 at St. Patrick Catholic Church in Waukon with Fr. Jim Dubert, Rev. Msgr. Ed Lechtenberg and Deacon Mike Ward officiating. Burial was at Mt. Olivet Cemetery, Waukon.
Helen Jane Haberichter was born November 2, 1932 on her parents’ farm in Linton Township, rural Harpers Ferry. She was the daughter of Timothy B. and Mary (Donahue) Egan. She was baptized and confirmed at St. Pius at Cherry Mound Catholic Church in rural Harpers Ferry.

Phyllis M. Breeser, 88, of New Albin passed away Wednesday, July 8, 2015 at her home. Funeral services were held Monday, July 13 at St. Peter’s Church in New Albin, with Rev. William J. Reese officiating. Burial was in St. Peter’s Memorial Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to St. Peter’s Church of New Albin or the New Albin Volunteer Fire Department.

Daniel Darling

Daniel Joseph Darling, 44, of New Albin died Thursday, July 2, 2015 at Mayo Health Systems in La Crosse, WI. Mass of Christian Burial was held Friday, July 10 at St. Joseph Catholic Church, New Albin, with Rev. John Moser as the Celebrant. Inurnment will be held at St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery, New Albin at a later date.
Daniel Joseph was born, January 28, 1971 in La Crosse, WI to Thomas and Elizabeth (Meyer) Darling. He graduated from Kee High School in Lansing in 1989. He was employed with Northern Engraving in Lansing until 2002, when health issues caused him to retire. Danny enjoyed hunting and fishing. He also loved watching Kee High Baseball, the Iowa Hawkeyes and the Washington Redskins.

Duane Meyer

Duane Harold Meyer, 81, of Castalia died Friday, June 26, 2015 at Gundersen Health Systems in La Crosse, WI surrounded by family. Funeral Services were held Friday, July 3 at Zion Lutheran Church, Castalia. Burial was at Postville Cemetery, Postville with Military Rites.
Duane was the son of Harold and Elsie (Blumhagen) Meyer. He was born August 8, 1933 on the family farm near Castalia. He was baptized in Postville September 4, 1933 by the Rev. Leroy Weihe and confirmed November 23, 1947 at Zion Lutheran Church, Castalia by Rev. LaVerne R. Meinecke. He attended the Castalia Public School for grades 1-8 and then went on to Postville High School, graduating in 1951.
