Obituaries are published in The Standard for a $45 fee and can be brought to the office at 15 First Street NW in Waukon, mailed to PO Box 286, Waukon IA 52172, or e-mailed to news@waukonstandard.com. Photos may be included for an additional charge of $15 (additonal photos are also $15). Obituaries of excessive length (longer than our single-column length of 15.5") will also incur an additional charge of $11/column inch for the content measuring longer than our 15.5-inch column length. Kathy Langland

Kathy A. Langland, 52, of rural Waukon died Wednesday, December 2, 2015 at her home. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, December 9 at 11 a.m. at Glenwood Lutheran Church in rural Decorah, with Pastor Stacey Nalean-Carlson officiating. Burial will be at Glenwood East Cemetery, rural Decorah. Visitation will be held one hour before services at the church Wednesday. Martin Funeral Home in Waukon is handling the arrangements.

Delbert Bulman

Delbert James “Delfee” Bulman, 89, of Dorchester died Friday, December 4, 2015 at Good Samaritan Center in Waukon. Funeral services were held Tuesday, December 8 at Mt. Hope Presbyterian Church in rural New Albin, with Pastor Paul Burgess officiating. Burial with military honors was at Mt. Hope Cemetery.
Delbert James "Delfee" Bulman was born to Alton John and Helga Mae (Sadler) Bulman January 22, 1926 in Preston, MN. After graduating from Waukon High School, he served in the U.S. Army in the Pacific Theatre from 1945 to 1946. Following his honorable discharge he returned to northeast Iowa where he began farming with his uncle, Fred.

Curtis Gramlich

Curtis L. Gramlich, 82, of Lansing passed peacefully at his son’s home in Hudson, WI Sunday, November 29, 2015, joining his loving wife of 56 years, Betty, in Heaven. Visitation will be from 4-7 p.m. Thursday, December 10 at the Thornburg-Grau Funeral Home and Cremation Service in Lansing, with a one-hour visitation before services at the church Friday. Memorial Services will be at 11 a.m. Friday, December 11 at the United Methodist Church, Lansing, with Rev. Kevin Smith as the Officiant. A private family burial will be at a later date.

Marie Perry

Marie D. Perry, 86, of Stonehill Care Center and formerly of 1843 Adair Street and Applewood Village, all in Dubuque, passed away peacefully Friday, November 30, 2015 at Mercy Medical Center in Dubuque.  Funeral services were held Friday, December 4 at St. Anthony's Catholic Church with the Rev. Steven Rosanke officiating. Burial was in Mt. Olivet Cemetery in Key West, south of Dubuque.
Marie was born December 3, 1928 in Waukon, the daughter of James and Celia (Griffin) Collins. She graduated from Waukon High School in 1947. In February 1962, Marie married Robert V. Perry at St. Joseph the Worker Catholic Church. He preceded her in death February 5, 1995.

Jean Monserud

Jean A. Monserud, 89, of Waukon passed away peacefully of natural causes Tuesday, December 1, 2015 at Good Samaritan Center in Waukon. Funeral services were held Saturday, December 5 at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Waukon with Rev. Lynn Groe officiating. Burial was held in Monona City Cemetery in Monona.
Jean Ardyce Monserud was born May 12, 1926 to Herbert and Elnora (Jahnke) Schmidt on the family farm near Garnavillo in rural Clayton County. When Jean was seven her parents began farming near Waterville.  Jean graduated from Waukon High School in 1942. She next attended normal training school in Waukon and studied teacher curriculum, which she completed in 1944.
Jean married Wesley Monserud April 2, 1945 at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Garnavillo, where she was baptized June 26, 1926 and confirmed March 17, 1940.

Alvin "Bunk" Darling

Alvin “Bunk” L. Darling, 81, of New Albin died Saturday, November 28, 2015 at his home. An open house will be held Saturday, December 12 from 1-6 p.m. at the New Albin Community Center.
Alvin “Bunk” Lawrence Darling was born September 15, 1934 in Jefferson Township, MN, just outside New Albin. He was the son of Melvin and Mildred (Henry) Darling. Bunk was baptized and confirmed at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in New Albin and graduated from New Albin High School.
December 29, 1952, he married Vera Thomson at St. Joseph’s in New Albin and the couple raised their family in New Albin. Bunk worked at a variety of jobs throughout his life, including working for Mendenhall Lumber, owning a grocery store, driving school bus, delivering fuel for Sires Oil, and helping his brother, Jug, at his service station. For 27 years, Bunk worked as a deliveryman and in sales at Sears in La Crosse, WI; after retiring, he worked for Kee High School in Lansing for five years.

Jean Ann Privett, 81, of La Crosse, WI, in anticipation of her 63rd wedding anniversary, went to be with the love of her life Leo, Saturday, November 28, 2015 at the Mayo Clinic Health System in La Crosse, WI. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Thursday, December 3 at 10:30 a.m. at the Cathedral of St. Joseph the Workman in La Crosse, WI. Msgr. Charles Stoetzel will officiate. Burial will be in the Catholic Cemetery in La Crosse, WI. Friends may call at the Schumacher-Kish Funeral & Cremation Services of La Crosse Wednesday, December 2 from 4-6 p.m. and at the church Thursday from 9:30 a.m. until the time of services.

Samson Boylen

Samson Boylen, 14, of Waterville died Sunday, November 29, 2015 from complications with the treatment of leukemia. Visitation will be from 3-8 p.m. Wednesday, December 2 at Garrity Funeral Home in Prairie du Chien, WI.
Samson was the son of Scott and Kelli (Kaderly) Boylen. He was born February 20, 2001. He enjoyed reading, video games, fishing, hunting, camping and spending time with family and friends. He enjoyed many sports, especially soccer.
Samson was awesome with younger children, especially his cousin, Mabel. He had a kind heart and a tender soul. Many appreciated his great sense of humor and quick wit.

LaVon Brickman

LaVon L. Brickman, 88, of Waukon, formerly of Harpers Ferry and Evansdale, died Monday, November 23, 2015 at Veterans Memorial Hospital in Waukon. Funeral services were held Monday, November 30 at Old East Paint Creek Lutheran Church in rural Waterville, with Pastor Ken Kimball officiating. Burial was at Garden of Memories Cemetery in Waterloo.
LaVon Linda Brickman was born February 17, 1927 in Waverly. She was the daughter of Elmer and Erna (Kleinschmidt) Lindner. LaVon grew up in Nashua, where she was confirmed at St. John’s Lutheran Church and attended local schools. She worked at Rath Packing Plant in Waterloo, where she met Harry Lee Brickman. The two were married May 28, 1950 at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Fairbank and made their home in Evansdale for many years.
In December of 1984, LaVon retired after 38 years on the line at Rath. They moved to Harpers Ferry in 1992, where they enjoyed many years before moving to Waukon in June of 2015.

Gerald Finkral

Gerald Eugene Finkral, 88, of Lansing died Friday, November 13, 2015 at his home in Lansing. Mass of Christian Burial was held Wednesday, November 18 at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Lansing, with Rev. John Moser as the Celebrant. Burial followed at Gethsemane Cemetery, Lansing.
Gerald was born August 16, 1927 to Archie and Alice (Hodges) Finkral in Madison County, NE. He attended Madison County Nebraska Country School.
Gerald was united in marriage with Wilhelmine “Willi” Rose Walleser December 4, 1989 in Elk Point, SD. They met at a polka dance. He was a lifelong farmer. Gerald was also a pilot and loved to fly. He enjoyed dances, camping and fishing in South Dakota. They relished their trips together to Alaska, Branson, California, Canada, Memphis and Nashville.
