"Big Dream Gathering" coming to Waukon May 2

In the midst of tough economic times, one man says that people helping each other with their big dreams is a recession-proof idea. “We’ve seen a lot of people go after their big dreams even in hard times,” says Big Dream Gathering creator Mitch Matthews, “because they’ve written those dreams down and gotten some help. And we know that real people going after big dreams is what made this country great.”

Volunteers needed for "Keep Waukon Beautiful Day" scheduled for May 14

The second annual "Keep Waukon Beautiful Day" has been scheduled for Saturday, May 14 in the Waukon area, and volunteers are being sought to help take part in the event in an effort to clean up and maintain the community. The inaugural event was held last spring and met with great success, and more volunteers are being sought again this year.
Interested participants are asked to meet at 8 a.m. Saturday, May 14 at the front entrance of Waukon City Park, and groups will then be dispersed to do some roadside clean-up and garbage pick-up through downtown Waukon and the City Park.

Audition dates set for "Beauty and the Beast"

Allamakee Community Players, Inc (ACPI) has announced audition dates for its summer musical, Disney’s “Beauty and the Beast.” Vickie Larson will be directing the musical, assisted by Valeria White as music director. Performances are scheduled for July 16 and 17 in the Waukon High School Auditorium.
This production is slated to have a cast of more than 20 parts, including roles for men, women and children, as well as a chorus. Auditions are open to any interested individuals and are scheduled for the following dates:

Senator Grassley makes Waukon visit during 99-county tour

Senator Charles Grassley made a stop in Waukon Tuesday, April 19 as part of his annual 99-county tour of Iowa. Grassley addressed a crowd of approximately 50 individuals at the Allamakee County Farm Bureau building in Waukon, fielding questions on a wide variety of topics. Energy policy was one of the most frequently discussed topics, with increasing gas prices and dependency on foreign oil weighing heavy on the minds of those in attendance and all Americans these days.

Waukon High School Prom 2011 is scheduled for Saturday, April 30. This year's post-prom will be held at the former Waukon Junior High School gymnasium from midnight to 4 a.m. following prom activities at Waukon High School.

Men's Ecumenical Lenten Supper set for April 17

The Men's Ecumenical Lenten Supper will be held Sunday, April 17 at St. John's Lutheran Church in Waukon. All men in the community are invited to attend. A presentation by Waukon High School Principal Dan Diercks will take place at 7 p.m. A meal with a free-will offering will follow.
