Waukon Chamber to kick off "Music on Main" series with June 13 performance

The Waukon Chamber of Commerce will kick off its Music on Main concert series Monday, June 13 at 6 p.m.
Michael Thoma of Waterloo will perform in the Visitor Center and Area Development office courtyard at 101 West Main Street in Waukon. He has been billed as “a skilled balladeer and catchy rock composer... Mike’s earnest lyrics and carefully crafted melodies are inspired by his upbringing on a farm in rural Iowa and the travels and wisdom that can only come with age.”

Waukon Park & Rec to host Summer Fun Program

The Waukon Park & Recreation Summer Fun Program is for kids ages four to seven years old to take part in crafts and games, with one group designed for four- and five-year-olds and another group for six- and seven-year-olds. The program will be held for five weeks each Monday and Wednesday from 9:30-11:30 a.m., starting June 6.

Seeking vendors for Farmers Market in Waukon

The Allamakee Farmers Market is looking for local growers, producers, bakers and crafters for the upcoming Allamakee Farmers Market scheduled to begin June 6.
The Market is growing and will be moving to the Waukon City Park at the Sweeney Shelter this summer. It will be held every Monday starting June 6 and ending September 26, from 3:30 to 6 p.m.

Early deadlines for Memorial Day holiday

Due to the Memorial Day holiday Monday, May 30, the news and advertising deadlines for the June 1 editions of The Standard and Northeast Iowa Extra publications have been moved up. Deadline for submitting an advertising or news item for those June 1 publications will now be Wednesday, May 25 by 12 Noon.
The Standard office will not be open Memorial Day, Monday, May 30. The Northeast Iowa Extra will be available for pick-up and delivery after Monday, May 30, and The Standard will be available for pick-up and delivery according to its regular schedule.

The Living Stone reflects on its first two years of existence

The Living Stone, located four miles west of Waukon on Highway 9, is a faith-based home that opened its doors to females March 2, 2009. During its first two years there have been nine females as part of the Living Stone program.

"Keep Waukon Beautiful Day" rescheduled for this Saturday at City Park

Due to rainy weather this past Saturday, the second annual "Keep Waukon Beautiful Day" has been rescheduled for this Saturday, May 21 in the Waukon area, and volunteers are again being sought to help take part in the event in an effort to clean up and maintain the community. The inaugural event was held last spring and met with great success, and more volunteers are being sought again this year to keep the event gaining momentum.
