Music on Main concert series to continue July 11

The Waukon Chamber of Commerce will host its second Music on Main event Monday, July 11 at 6 p.m. Bluejump and friends will perform in the Visitor and Area Development office courtyard at 101 West Main Street in Waukon. Bluejump is a local band comprised of Dorchester resident Jeff Abbas and former Portland, OR resident Gary “Cookie” Andersen (pictured above, left to right). In addition to original selections, the duo performs R&B, classic blues from the 1930s to 1950s, and old rock and roll.

I-Ride slated to help resident dreams become reality

The third annual I-Ride scheduled for Saturday, July 16 offers motorcycle enthusiasts an opportunity to trek across northeast Iowa and western Wisconsin while raising money for Good Samaritan Society - Waukon, Postville, and West Union. This year’s event has a new twist, as the ride proceeds will go toward the bucket list wishes of residents: aspirations and dreams that residents might not otherwise have the opportunity to do.

Corn Days celebration continues expansion with Buck Hollow Band

This year’s Waukon Corn Days celebration will feature something new - music by the Buck Hollow Band.
Friday, August 5, the country and fifties-music duo will perform from 7 to 11 p.m. in the Waukon State Bank parking lot. An admission fee will be charged and attendees must be at least 21 years of age to enter the performance.

Open Class building at Allamakee County Fair provides abundant opportunity in new activities and old favorites

The 2011 Allamakee County Fair is scheduled for July 20-24. In addition to the grandstand, the midway, and the 4-H and FFA livestock and project exhibits, there will be special events occurring in the Open Class Building throughout the Fair.

Robey Memorial Library plans Feasibility Study

The Robey Memorial Library Board of Trustees and library staff have made plans to move forward with a possible library expansion project.
Plans for expanding the library continue to be developed by the library Board of Trustees and library staff.  Now, a professional planning and fundraising consultant has been hired to help with project planning and to discover the potential for funding the library expansion with a capital fundraising campaign.

Allamakee Community Players, Inc. to present "Beauty and the Beast"

Allamakee Community Players, Inc. (ACPI) will be presenting its production of the Disney musical "Beauty and the Beast" in mid-July. Performances will take place at the Waukon High School Auditorium Friday, July 15 and Saturday, July 16 at 7 p.m., and Sunday, July 17 at 2 p.m.

Corner of Hope: More than corn and beans

The Corner of Hope/Foods Resource Bank committee reminds farmers that they can be a part of this ecumenical, cooperative effort even if they choose not to have a growing project on their farm. For example, two local farmers have sold wagonloads of corn and had payment sent directly to Corner of Hope (COH). One livestock farmer has recently sold two yearling calves and assigned the proceeds to COH.  There are any number of ways farmers can participate in this local effort to alleviate world hunger.

Deadline is July 1 to register for Allamakee County 2011 Fair Queen competition

The Allamakee County Fair Board is seeking applicants for the 2011 Allamakee County Fair Queen contest, with this year's fair running July 20-24.
The contest will run similarly to that of the Iowa State Fair Queen Contest. Each girl will dress appropriately and either give a presentation on highlights of her Allamakee County Fair experience or perform a talent, in addition to being involved in various events sponsored by the Fair Board.

Three arrested Friday in Waukon on various charges

The Waukon Police Department reports that the execution of a felony arrest warrant in Waukon Friday afternoon, June 24 resulted in the arrests of three individuals on a variety of charges. The report indicates that the original warrant was served at 607 Allamakee Street, Apartment 201, where Casey Colsch, age 25, was arrested on a felony assault warrant.
