The annual St. Patrick's Day Parade in Waukon has been scheduled for Sunday, March 13. The event will begin at 1 p.m. All the usual activities involving food, music and fun are expected to take place again following the parade.

NEIA H.O.G. Chapter Chili Cook-off to benefit Waukon fire department Jaws of Life

The Northeast Iowa H.O.G. (Harley Owners Group) Chapter will be hosting a Chili Cook-off Saturday, March 5 to benefit the Waukon Area Fire Protection District. The event will take place at Waukon Harley-Davidson from 11 a.m.-2 p.m., with proceeds from the contest entry fee or all-you-can eat chili meal being donated to the Waukon Area Fire Protection District to help purchase a cutter attachment for the department’s Jaws of Life equipment.

Seeking acts to participate in Lions Club Variety Show

The Waukon Lions Club is seeking acts for its annual variety show to be held Saturday,  April 2 at the Waukon High School Auditorium. The Lions plan to use the proceeds from the variety show to fund several local projects, including scholarships, camperships, vision screening, sponsorship of local projects and events, and local Habitat for Humanity projects.

Kevin Quillin inducted into UPS "Circle of Honor" for 25 years of safe driving

United Parcel Service (UPS) recently announced ten elite drivers from Iowa are among 1,122 newly inducted worldwide into the Circle of Honor, an honorary organization for UPS drivers who have achieved 25 or more years of accident-free driving. Among this year's honorees is Kevin Quillin of Waukon, who delivers out of the Decorah UPS location.

Waukon Area Fire Protection District purchases new rescue vehicle

The Waukon Area Fire Protection District recently purchased a new off-road rescue utility vehicle to assist department volunteers in conducting rescues and performing other firefighting tasks in areas not easily accessible, such as in snow-covered areas or roadside ditches. The John Deere Gator XUV 620i features a track system, interchangeable with wheels, that allows for improved maneuverability and accessibility in the rural and off-road areas of Allamakee County, with a slide-in tank and pump unit also having been purchased to help in fighting grass and brush fires.

Random drug search conducted at high school, junior high in Waukon

Tuesday, February 15, police dogs supported by the Postville Police Department and Clayton County Sheriff’s Department, along with the Waukon Police Department, searched the Waukon Junior High/High School building for drugs and drug paraphernalia.
The random search lasted about one hour and resulted in two students found in possession of tobacco and one student in possession of drug paraphernalia. All incidents were referred to the Waukon Police Department for further investigation.

Warmer weather not always pleasant

The warmer temperatures that brought an abundance of melting to the Allamakee County area earlier this week did not always result in warm, pleasant thoughts, as evidenced in the photo at right.
