Park Board prepares for Waukon City Park expansion project

At its November meeting, the Waukon Park and Recreation Board discussed increasing community involvement as the park and recreation facilities expand. The Board is seeking community members to join an advisory committee. The purpose of the advisory committee would be to offer suggestions on park improvements and ideas for incorporating approximately 24 acres of new park land being donated by the Waukon Economic Development Commission (WEDC).

Waterville native publishes first children's picture book

Waterville native Mary (Evanson) Bleckwehl, now living in Northfield, MN, has recently published her first children's picture book. Entitled "Henry! you’re late AGAIN!", the book's main subject is Henry, a six-year-old who can never get to school on time and faces the biggest nightmare of all every morning - the school secretary.

Vet's Hall "Elvis" event to benefit Relief Office

A benefit event planned for this Saturday, December 4 at the Vet’s Hall in Waukon will benefit the Allamakee County Relief Office. The event will begin at 7:30 p.m. with an “Elvis” performance, with all the admission proceeds being donated to the Allamakee County Relief Office to help needy families with such things as food baskets for the holidays, as well as to purchase boots and winter clothing for children, in addition to other needs that may arise.

Cub Scout Pack 64 "Scouting for Food" this Saturday

Cub Scout Pack 64 of Waukon will be conducting a “Scouting for Food” drive this Saturday, December 4 at the two local grocery stores. Scouts will be at Fareway and Quillin’s Food Ranch in Waukon from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday accepting food donations that will then be donated directly to the Allamakee County Food Shelf and the Allamakee County Relief Office.

Gingerbread House Decorating Contest to be held December 4

Saturday, December 4, Kitchen Krafts will hold its 9th Annual Gingerbread House Decorating Contest, open to all children in the area, ages 7-11, at the West Elementary gym in Waukon.
Each participant will be supplied with all they’ll need: an assembled gingerbread house, icing, and candies for decorating. They will be given 45 minutes to decorate their house and then the houses will be judged and prizes awarded.

Waukon State Bank donates to Allamakee County Relief Office and Allamakee County Food Shelf in time for the upcoming holiday season

Waukon State Bank made a recent donation to both the Allamakee County Relief Office and the Allamakee County Food Shelf to help with increased needs at both facilities during the upcoming holiday season.
Jim Sweeney of Waukon State Bank presented a check for $250 to Linda Kruse of the Allamakee County Relief Office for the holiday season.  The money will be used toward gifts for the 160 children on the Relief Office Christmas list.

The Waukon Chamber of Commerce is seeking nominations from community residents for Waukon’s “Person of the Year” honor.
