Waukon volleyball team wraps up NEIC season with single-win results

The Waukon volleyball team locked itself into a pair of one-win Northeast Iowa Conference (NEIC) results this past week, wrapping up its regular season before heading into Class 3A postseason tournament play Monday, October 27 at home against Crestwood. The Indians had their NEIC dual match season brought to a close at a 1-5 NEIC record with a three-set defeat at Class 4A sixth-rated Charles City Tuesday, October 14 and then managed just one win in six matches while hosting the NEIC Tournament Saturday, October 18.
The end result of that final NEIC stretch leaves the Indians with a 15-21 overall match record, 1-5 in NEIC play. The Indians will now prepare to host their first-round Class 3A Regional Tournament match against Crestwood Monday, October 27, beginning at 7 p.m.

Kee volleyball team falls to Starmont in UIC home match, splits four at UIC Tournament

The Kee volleyball team brought its regular season to a close this past week with a full slate of Upper Iowa Conference (UIC) action. The Hawks fell in three sets to Starmont at home Tuesday, October 14 by scores of 12-25, 10-25 and 12-25 before splitting four matches at the Upper Iowa Conference Tournament to advance from their original four-team tournament pool and finish as one of the top eight teams at the tournament.
Wrapping up their regular season with an 11-16 overall match record, 4-5 in Upper Iowa Conference (UIC) play, the Hawks were scheduled to open postseason tournament play with their Class 1A Regional Tournament Tuesday, October 21 at home against Central Elkader, beginning at 7 p.m.

Waukon volleyball team pulls off thrilling comeback triumph at Crestwood

The Waukon volleyball team posted just a single win out of five total matches this past week, but what a win it was. In a battle of teams in search of their first Northeast Iowa Conference victory of the season at Crestwood Tuesday, October 7, the Indians fought back from the brink of remaining winless by claiming the final three of five sets, 21-25, 19-25, 25-23, 25-18 and 15-7. Waukon’s winning for the week was stopped there, however, as the Tribe netters fell in all four of their matches at the Hudson Tournament Saturday, October 11 to teams from Edgewood-Colesburg, Center Point-Urbana, Hudson and Iowa Valley.

Kee volleyball team wins at West Central, falls at Ed-Co and at Hudson Tournament

The Kee volleyball team opened this past busy week of competition with a three-set sweep at West Central, but had its fortunes reversed in going winless the remainder of the week in five matches. The Hawks swept their West Central hosts by scores of 25-16, 25-18 and 25-22 Tuesday, October 7, but won just a single set in being tripped up at Edgewood-Colesburg Thursday, October 9 by scores of 23-25, 25-20, 22-25 and 9-25. The Kee netters were then swept in four straight matches at the Hudson Tournament Saturday, October 11, falling to the host school, as well as to Center Point-Urbana, AGWSR and Edgewood-Colesburg once again.

Kee football team strikes early and often in 52-18 home win over Springville

The Kee football team rebounded from its second District 4 loss of the season suffered a week earlier by establishing itself early and often on the way to a 52-18 rout of Springville at home Friday, October 10. The Hawks made a statement with a touchdown on their first offensive play of the ballgame and never looked back on the way to pounding out nearly 400 rushing yards to fuel a 473-227 advantage in total yards.
Improving to a 5-2 overall record on the season, 3-2 in district play, the Hawks will hit the road for one of the greatest challenges on their schedule when they face undefeated and top-five rated Central Elkader this Friday, October 17. The Warriors have not scored fewer than 62 points in any of their games this season, posting a pair of 94-point outings on the way to outscoring their opponents by a 520-114 margin that includes a 68-0 romp at Central City this past Friday, October 10.

Waukon boys cross country team runs to second place at South Winneshiek Invitational

In its only competition of the week, the Waukon boys cross country team ran to another second-place finish behind perennial power Decorah Tuesday, October 7 at the South Winneshiek Invitational. The Indians tallied 54 team points to earn those runner-up honors in the field of five scoring teams.
The Indians were scheduled to compete in the Northeast Iowa Conference Meet Tuesday, October 14 being held at Decorah this year. The Tribe will then prepare for its Class 2A State Qualifying Meet set for Thursday, October 23 at New Hampton.

Waukon girls cross country team competes at South Winneshiek

The Waukon girls cross country team competed as a team in one high school race at the South Winneshiek Invitational Tuesday, October 7, finishing seventh in the seven-team field. The Indians had nine high school runners competing in the race, but were without the services of their consistent number-five scoring runner, sophomore Katelynn Griffith, in totaling 168 team points.
The Indians were scheduled to compete in the Northeast Iowa Conference Meet Tuesday, October 14 being hosted by Decorah this year. The Tribe will then take part in its Class 2A State Qualifying Meet that has been scheduled for Thursday, October 23.

The Kee cross country team brought its regular season invitational schedule to a close at the New Hampton Invitational Thursday, October 9. The Hawks tallied 311 points to finish 11th in the 11-team field.
The Hawks are scheduled to compete in the Upper Iowa Conference Meet hosted by South Winneshiek at Ossian Thursday, October 16, with their Class 1A State Qualifying Meet slated for Thursday, October 23 at Nashua-Plainfield.

Waukon football team battles top-10 rated New Hampton to 26-12 home defeat

The Waukon football team played host to the second of two fellow Class 2A District 3 opponents ranked within this season’s top 10 in that class, when eighth-rated New Hampton came to town Friday, October 10. Having learned and grown through some tough adversity since hosting District 3’s other top-10 rated team, a 40-14 Homecoming loss to North Fayette Valley, the Indians put up a strong fight against the yet district-undefeated Chickasaws, remaining within a one-touchdown margin at the end of each of the game’s first three quarters before finally surrendering a 26-12 defeat.

Waukon football team grinds out, picks its way through 44-14 triumph at Waterloo Columbus

In a battle of teams each looking for their first Class 2A District 3 win of the season Friday, October 3, the Waukon football team left its Waterloo Columbus hosts still winless on the season. In a reversal of what has played out in prior games, the football Indians racked up more than double the yards it gained on the ground than through the air, also taking advantage of five interceptions to help post a 44-14 victory over the host Sailors.
Improving to a 2-4 overall record and a 1-2 mark in District 3 play, the Indians will return home this Friday, October 10 to host top-10 rated New Hampton. The Chickasaws sport a 5-1 overall record, that lone loss coming to Class 1A top-five rated South Winneshiek, 18-7, in non-district play several weeks ago. New Hampton comes off a 42-14 home win over Oelwein this past Friday, October 3.
