Mock accident drives home consequences

Wednesday, April 24, Waukon High School students witnessed a simulated two-vehicle accident just outside the high school parking lot in anticipation of raising student awareness during this busy time of year with Prom, graduation and nicer spring weather.

WHS Music Department to perform at Large Group Music Festival this Friday

The Waukon High School Music Department will be performing at the Iowa High School Music Association State Large Group Music Festival at Decorah High School Friday, May 3. The Waukon High School Vocal Music Department, under the direction of Adrienne Gerst, will be performing at 5:30 p.m., 7:15 p.m., 8:25 p.m. and 8:55 p.m. in the Decorah High School Practice Gym.

Waterville Elementary sixth grade students present their annual Wax Museum project

Waterville Elementary School's sixth grade class, under the direction of Lee Stegen, recently presented its annual Wax Museum project. As part of their involvement in the project, the students chose an historical character and researched their life, creating a PowerPoint presentation telling their character’s life story and then summarizing that story into a one-minute speech. They memorized the speech and dressed in costume to present to the younger students at Waterville Elementary School and other visitors who came to the “Wax Museum.” The class appreciates the assistance of the St.

Outstanding high school seniors to be honored at Governor's Scholar Recognition Ceremony

A total of 438 high school seniors across Iowa will be honored Sunday, April 28 at the Eleventh Annual Governor’s Scholar Recognition Ceremony, held at Hy-Vee Hall in Des Moines starting at 1 p.m. The Governor’s Office, the Iowa High School Athletic Association, and its title sponsor, the Iowa Farm Bureau Federation, are presenting this recognition program.
Among those honored students will be Waukon High School senior Susan Maslo and Kee High School senior Arin Moritz.

ACSD students attend 3D Printing Workshop

Students from the Allamakee Community School District (ACSD) attended a 3D Printing Workshop at Keystone Area Education Agency in Elkader Tuesday, April 16. The students included Waukon High School seniors Austin Hansen and Darin Valley, who are studying Virtual Reality Education under the direction of Kala Caroll, and East Elementary sixth grade students Nate Helgerson and Micah Treptau, who have been working with Blender and TinkerCad 3D design programs through the Allamakee Accelerated Learning Program (AALP) under the direction of Carlyn Wacker.

"Reality 101" event hosts nearly 200 graduating seniors from area schools

Nearly 200 graduating seniors from Postville, Kee, MFL/MarMac and Waukon High Schools attended “Reality 101” at the Waukon High School Wednesday, April 10. Over 80 individuals and businesses volunteered their time to create a real life financial scenario for all of these students preparing for graduation.

Waukon High School to present "Murder Runs in the Family" this weekend

Waukon High School will present "Murder Runs in the Family," a stage production written by Pat Cook, this Friday and Saturday, April 19 and 20. The production will begin at 7:30 p.m. in the Waukon High School Auditorium. Jack Sparks is a wise-cracking private eye who has been hired to protect Heather Pallfeather. Heather’s father has died rather mysteriously and his will is to be read at midnight. The reading of the will brings in a host of interesting family members on a stormy night. As the reading of the will gets closer, the number of dead bodies gets larger.

NICC Waukon Center to host Open House April 22

The Northeast Iowa Community College (NICC) Waukon Center is holding a free open house Monday, April 22 to offer community members opportunities to learn more about academic programs and services offered through the college’s center, located at 1220 Third Avenue NW in Waukon.
Waukon-area community members are encouraged to visit the center anytime between 4-7 p.m. April 22 to learn more about academic programs at NICC, how to apply for financial aid, continuing education coursework offered at the center and short-term certification programs that can enhance career marketability.

High school students may register now for ACT® test to be given in June

Registration is now open for the June 8 administration of the ACT® college and career readiness exam. Students who want to take the exam on this date must register by May 3.
Students can register online at www.actstudent.org or by mail. Paper registration forms can be obtained from school counselor offices or by requesting a registration packet from ACT®. Students must submit a photo of themselves to register for the exam.
