College Night for high school students

Northeast Iowa and southeast Minnesota high school students and their parents will have an opportunity to talk with representatives of more than 65 higher education institutions Monday, September 16 at Luther College in Decorah.
College Night will be held from 6:30-8 p.m. in the Sports and Recreational Center at the college's Regents Center, located on the lower campus. The college invites all students and families interested in information about post-high school education options to attend. The event is open to the public with no charge for admission.

Kee Ingredients teaching and doing business again in Kee High Family and Consumer Sciences

Kee Ingredients is Kee High School's Family and Consumer Sciences student-run take-and-bake business, teaching students many aspects of the food production and services industry while also being a licensed food establishment. Students in Food Production are learning about quantitative cooking and business management through the preparation and sale of frozen meals.

Report indicates ACT scores for ACSD students rank above both state of Iowa and national average

The Allamakee Community School District (ACSD) recently received its "College Readiness Letter" from ACT for those students who took the test this past year. Information shared from ACT in the letter includes:
• 60 ACSD 2013 graduates took the exam this past year.
• ACSD students scores were higher than the state average in English, math, reading, science, and the composite score.

Waukon High School to begin "Project Lead the Way" program

Waukon High School is currently starting a new program for all students in grades 9-12. The program is called "Project Lead the Way" (PLTW), a national program for students interested in engineering. This program is part of the national push for more students to investigate STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) fields as future careers.

Walking School Bus starts Friday

The Allamakee Community School District (ACSD) will begin its Walking School Bus for the 2013-2014 school year this Friday morning, August 30. Students will be walking to their respective elementary school (East, West or St. Patrick) with responsible adult supervisors along a safe route. Interested families should meet at 7:45 a.m. at the playing field one block north of East Elementary School near the ACSD bus barn along Fifth Street NW in Waukon.

Walking School Bus to begin August 30 in ACSD

Students in the Allamakee Community School District (ACSD) are invited to join the Allamakee Community School Walking School Bus this fall. Students will be accompanied by responsible supervisors as they walk a safe route to their respective elementary school in Waukon (East, West or St. Patrick Elementary Schools). The Walking School Bus will depart from the playing field one block north of East Elementary near the ACSD bus barn along Fifth Street NW on the following Friday mornings: August 30, September 20, October 18 and November 15.

Students, families catch financial break with 2013-2014 NICC tuition freeze

Students enrolled at Northeast Iowa Community College’s (NICC) campuses and centers – or taking classes online, at their local high schools or who reside out-of-state – stand to benefit financially from the college’s decision to freeze tuition and fees for the 2013-2014 academic year.
