Music departments of Waukon High School, Jr. High to host fourth annual Pop's Concert March 1

The music departments of Waukon High School and Waukon Junior High School will be hosting the fourth annual Pop’s Concert Saturday, March 1 at the Waukon Junior High School gymnasium.  Doors will open at 6 p.m. with concert time at 7 p.m.

Allamakee Music Boosters to present "The Cat's Pajamas" a cappella group February 20

The Allamakee Music Boosters announce they will be sponsoring the a cappella vocal group, "The Cat’s Pajamas," in Waukon Thursday, February 20.  This all-male a cappella group based out of Branson, MO will be performing at the Waukon High School Auditorium at 7 p.m. Thursday, February 20 as part of its seventh annual Music in Schools Tour.

Kee High Speech to host Dinner Theater February 28

The Kee High School Speech Program will be hosting its Second Annual Speech Dinner Theater at TJ Hunter’s Banquet facility in Lansing Friday, February 28 with doors opening at 5:30 p.m. The public is welcome to attend by purchasing advance tickets, which may be purchased from the school office by calling 563-538-4201 or from any speech student. A buffet with a dessert bar will be furnished along with entertainment from the Large Group Speech Teams and a few individual Speech events.

Five Kee Large Group Speech Teams qualify for State

Kee  High School's Large Group Speech Teams competed at the district level Saturday, January 25 at Decorah.  Nine teams participated with five teams advancing on to the State Contest, which will be held at Waterloo West High School this Saturday, February 8. The nine competing teams (with State qualifiers noted) included the following:
"Yes Means No" ensemble (State qualifier): Matt Manning, Colin Brennan, Andy Kelleher, Chasity Wild and Megan Vinson.
"Wanted: One Groom" ensemble (State qualifier): Ethan Walleser, Sam Meiners, Allison Colsch, Emily Benzing and Danny Brennan.

Allamakee Music Boosters holding "Buy a Key" campaign

The Allamakee Music Boosters have kicked off a "Buy a Key" campaign to help finance the purchase of a new piano for musical performances and preparation within the Allamakee Community School District. The new piano would be used for such purposes as Choir classroom rehearsal at the Junior High and High School in Waukon, Junior High Band Solo Contest performances, Pre-Contest Solo Night for the High School Band and Choir, East Elementary School concerts, the high school musical, and other auditorium concerts or performances where a piano is on the floor.

Waukon Head Start to hold registration event February 5

Waukon Head Start, located at 953 Third Avenue NW in Waukon, will be holding its Registration Day Wednesday, February 5 from 2:30-5:30 p.m. Head Start, operated by Northeast Iowa Community Action, is a full-day program that offers a safe and nurturing environment while providing fun and active learning.

St. Patrick School Mardi Gras is Saturday

St. Patrick School in Waukon will be holding its annual Mardi Gras fundraising event Saturday, January 25 at the Waukon Banquet Center. Doors open at 5:30 p.m. and dinner will be served at 6:30 p.m. Live and silent auctions and games will take place throughout the evening. Local businesses and individuals have donated items (some of which are pictured) and funding to help make the event a success for St. Patrick School. Live Healthy Iowa offers K-12 Cup Challenge for Iowa Schools

Live Healthy Iowa and Live Healthy Iowa Kids unveiled a new opportunity in 2013 to build a culture of wellness in Iowa schools. The K-12 Cup Challenge was designed to increase adult and student participation in the 10 Week Wellness Challenge offered by Live Healthy Iowa, a program of the Iowa Sports Foundation.
