Benzing repeats as Spelling Bee champion

Katelyn Benzing, sixth grade daughter of Brad and Becky Benzing of Harpers Ferry, recently won the Waterville Elementary School Spelling Bee. She is a repeat champion, having also won the school's spelling bee last year as a fifth grader. She successfully spelled the word "recognized" to win this year's title. Submitted photo.

WHS and ADFS to present Class of 2014 Senior Awards Program

The Senior Awards Program for the Class of 2014 at Waukon High School (WHS) is scheduled to be held in the high school auditorium Tuesday, May 13 at 7 p.m. All students, parents, families and community members are invited to attend the event.
Allamakee Dollars for Scholars and many community groups will present awards to members of the WHS Senior Class that evening. In addition, honors and achievements by WHS Class of 2014 members will be recognized.

Walking School Bus returns to Waukon through month of May

The Walking School Bus provides a safe, fun and active way for students to get to school. Both in-town and out-of-town students are encouraged to participate in the Walking School Buses, which are making a return appearance in Waukon this week through the month of May.

Elementary student artwork to be on display prior to upcoming spring concerts

Under the direction of art instructor Carlyn Wacker, students at East Elementary School in Waukon and Waterville Elementary School will have their artwork on display at the Fifth Annual Art Show being held in conjunction with each school's annual spring concert, according to the following schedule:
• East Elementary Art Show: Monday, May 5 at 6:30 p.m. in the Waukon High School Cafeteria, prior to the East Elementary Spring Concert at 7 p.m. in the Waukon High School Gymnasium.

2014 Waukon High School Prom Queen and King candidates for Saturday's event

The 2014 Waukon High School Prom is scheduled for this Saturday, May 3 at the current Waukon Junior High School gymnasium, with doors opening at 7:30 p.m. to the public for the Grand March and seating available in the Waukon High School Auditorium. Coronation of this year's Prom King and Queen will begin immediately following the Grand March, after which community members will be dismissed. The ensuing Prom dance will come to an end at midnight, and the annual Post Prom event will be held from midnight to 4 a.m. at the former Waukon Junior High gymnasium.

Waukon FFA greenhouse in full bloom at Waukon High School

Preparations for the Waukon FFA chapter's plant sale have been in full swing the past few weeks at Waukon High School. Students in the Horticulture class, FFA chapter and Ag I under the direction of Ms. Jessica O'Connor have been busy planting seeds and plugs in preparation for the sale to be held in early May.

Waukon High School to present "Catering to Murder" this weekend

Waukon High School drama students have spent the last five weeks preparing for the performances of "Catering to Murder" scheduled for this weekend in the Waukon High School Auditorium. The production will be featured Friday and Saturday, April 25 and 26 at 7 p.m. each evening. General admission seating tickets will be sold at the door. This year's production is a mystery thriller play that is more serious in nature than some of the department's previous productions.

Kee High School 2014 Prom King and Queen candidates

The 2014 Kee High School Prom is scheduled for this Saturday, April 26. The annual banquet will be held at TJ Hunter’s Reception Hall, beginning at 5:30 p.m., with the dance taking place from 8 p.m. to 12 a.m. in the reception hall as well. The public is invited to attend the Grand March, which is scheduled to begin at 8 p.m., with a free-will donation being taken at the door. Following the Grand March, this year’s Prom King and Queen will be crowned. Kee’s Post Prom festivities will follow the dance until 4 a.m. at the Lansing Middle School.
