Lori Gress and Blair Cahoon exchanged marriage vows during a Nov. 20, 2004, ceremony at First Presbyterian Church in Waukon. Rev. Larry Olson officiated the 3 p.m. ceremony.

Parents of the couple are Gary and Dorothy Gress and Kirby and Rhonda Cahoon, all of Waukon. Grandmother of the bride is Laura Duvel and grandmother of the groom is Ruth Miller.

The church was decorated with amethyst and silver pew bows and floral arrangements on the altar.

Jill Kramer and Jared Soper, Waukon, wish to announce their engagement and forthcoming marriage.

The bride is a 1995 graduate of Prairie du Chien High School. The groom is a 1990 graduate of Waukon Senior High.

The couple will be married Saturday, April 30, 2005, at 3 p.m. at St. John’s Lutheran Church, Waukon. Following the ceremony, a reception and dance will be held at the Allamakee Fairgrounds Pavilion in Waukon.

Dale and Marie Schwartzhoff of Dorchester wish to announce the engagement and upcoming marriage of their daughter, Diane, to Craig Thier of Cascade, son of Vic and Jean Thier.

The bride-to-be graduated from Clarke College in Dubuque and is a physical therapist at the Galena Staass Hospital in Galena, Ill.

The groom-elect is a graduate of Cascade High School and is a designer at Cascade Lumber Co.

Virgil and Lavon Martins will celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary with an open house at the KC Hall in Ossian Saturday, April 2, 2005. The open house will go from 2 to 4 p.m. with a dance to follow from 4 to 7 p.m. The Toe Tappers will provide music. Everyone is welcome to attend. No further invitations are being sent.

Virgil Martins and Lavon Ewing were united in marriage February 13, 1955, at the Presbyterian Church in Postville.

Retrouvaille, a program for couples living with disappointment and pain in their marriages, makes a return visit to Dubuque April 15-17. Another program is scheduled in Marshalltown for Sept. 16-18.

The program consists of a weekend experience with six short post sessions over the following three months. The main emphasis is to help couples learn to communicate with each other, producing love, forgiveness, and trust. Following each session, couples are given time to discuss how it relates to them. There are no group dynamics.

Scott and Bridget Adam of Waukon are pleased to announce the birth of their son, Chase David. Born Tuesday, March 15, 2005, at Veterans Memorial Hospital, he was 6 pounds, 8 ounces.
Chase joins siblings Ashley, 10, Colin, 8, and Chance, 1.
Grandparents are Jim and Jan Pfiffner of Harpers Ferry and David and Calleen Adam of Postville. Great-grandparents are Leota Pfiffner of Lansing and Calvin and Garneth Hook of Manchester.

Many of our neediest citizens are in danger of losing the help they count on every day. This month, the U.S. House and Senate will each be voting on budget resolutions that could cut at least $15 billion from Medicaid. This would be devastating for our elderly and citizens with disabilities.
