"Walk to Remember" is Saturday; Area natives share their infant loss experience

Healing Hearts Infant Loss Support Group will be hosting its Fourth Annual Walk to Remember Saturday, October 12 at Waukon City Park. The event will begin at 10:30 a.m. and is being held to honor the memory of babies who have passed from this life.
In an effort to provide support for those who may have experienced an infant loss, a pair of ladies with local ties have shared below their own experiences with infant loss. Waukon High School senior Nicole McGeough of Waukon and Waukon native Janet (Hanson) Mezera have offered their stories below:

Second annual Fields of Faith event is this Wednesday

Students, parents and community members are invited to join thousands of others on athletic fields all across the nation Wednesday, October 9 to share their Christian faith with each other during the eighth annual national Fields of Faith event. Although in existence nationwide for several years, the local Fields of Faith event in Waukon is being held for just its second year that same evening at the Waukon High School football field after a successful inaugural event last year that drew more than 400 local people.

Open house events at Makee Manor and Allamakee County Jail planned for this Saturday

The Allamakee County Board of Supervisors has scheduled a pair of open house events at Makee Manor and the Allamakee County Jail this Saturday, October 12 from 8 a.m. to 12 noon. The purpose of the open house events is to provide area residents a better understanding of the decisions the Board faces with regard to both facilities, with tours of each facility being provided and questions taken from members of the general public.

Waukon High School seniors Nicole McGeough (left) and Seth Snitker (right) were crowned Waukon High School's 2013 Homecoming Queen and King at the traditional "Burning of the 'W'" pep rally Thursday evening, September 26 at the Waukon High School gym. Big Pumpkin contest winner tips the scales at 1,000+ pounds
