Donation to Sheriff's Office allows for purchase of thermal imaging camera

The Allamakee County Sheriff’s Office has received a $2,250 donation from the family of Don Angel of Waukon. This monetary donation was used to purchase a forward looking infrared (FLIR) thermal imaging camera. The purchase of this camera will be a valuable resource to first responders for search and rescue operations under adverse conditions. Pictured at right is Audrey Angel, wife of the late Don Angel, holding the camera. The FLIR thermal imaging camera is a handheld, portable unit that forms a visible image by using infrared radiation.

For fourth consecutive year Veterans Memorial Hospital honored by Press Ganey for excellence

Veterans Memorial Hospital in Waukon is proud to announce it has been named a 2013 Guardian of Excellence Award winner by Press Ganey Associates, Inc. The Guardian of Excellence Award recognizes top-performing facilities that consistently achieved the 95th percentile of performance in Emergency Services.
This is the fourth year in a row the hospital has been recognized for its high emergency services satisfaction scores. This year the hospital was recognized with a Guardian of Excellence Award for their Inpatient Services as well.

Explore 4-H community informational meetings for new clubs starting in Waukon and New Albin

To evaluate the interest of starting new 4-H clubs in the Waukon and New Albin areas, informational meetings are being held in each community. Community members, businesses and families who are interested in starting and becoming members in a new 4-H LEGO Club in Waukon and a new community or project club in New Albin are encouraged to attend.
New Albin’s meeting will take place Tuesday, December 17 from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. at the New Albin Public Library. The Waukon meeting will be Thursday, December 19 from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m at the Northeast Iowa Community College Waukon Center.

Allamakee Ecumenical Choir to present "A Christmas Festival of Lessons and Carols" this Sunday

The Allamakee Ecumenical Choir will present "A Christmas Festival of Lessons and Carols" service this Sunday, December 15 at 7 p.m. at St. Patrick Catholic Church, 101 Second Street SW in Waukon. Area clergy will read the lessons and carols will be sung by the choirs and congregation while accompanied by organ and trumpets. Choral numbers will be presented by the Ecumenical Choir, Ecumenical Men’s Choir and Ecumenical Children’s Choir. Musical selections will also be presented by the St. John’s Lutheran Church Youth and Senior Handbell Choirs.

Brink defeats Cunningham in Waukon City Council At-Large run-off election

Results reported by the Allamakee County Auditor's Office and now officially canvassed by the Allamakee County Board of Supervisors indicate a victory for challenger Darrold Brink in the Tuesday, December 3 run-off election for the Waukon City Council At-Large seat. According to results from Tuesday's run-off election, Brink garnered 471 votes to 264 votes for Joe Cunningham, the incumbent candidate seeking his third four-year term in the At-Large seat.

The idea of a bike trail the entire length of the Mississippi River sounded absurd to many when it was first announced in 2000, but soon-to-be-completed work on County Road X52, south of Harpers Ferry, means more than half of the 36 miles of river road trail will be completed in Allamakee County.

After 40 years in radio, KNEI’s Chuck Bloxham is hanging up his microphone.

Bloxham, whose on-air persona is Chuck Allen, has been a familiar voice on Waukon radio for more than four decades.

Brink defeats Cunningham in Waukon City Council At-Large run-off election

The Allamakee County Auditor's Office is reporting a sizable victory for challenger Darrold Brink in the Tuesday, December 3 run-off election for the Waukon City Council At-Large seat. According to preliminary results from Tuesday's run-off, Brink garnered 471 votes to just 264 votes for Joe Cunningham, the incumbent candidate who was seeking his third four-year term in the At-Large seat. The reported vote totals are unofficial until the Allamakee County Board of Supervisors canvass the election results.
