Birth announcement: Dunlap

Kristin and Creig Dunlap of Cedar Falls are happy to announce the birth of their daughter, Rayanne Victoria, January 22, 2009 at Covenant Medical Center in Waterloo. She weighed 7 lbs., 4 ozs. and was 20 1/2 inches long at the time of her birth. Grandparents are Jackie Ronnfeldt of Lansing, B.J. Palas of Waukon and Corwin and Maggie Dunlap of Nashua.

Jennifer and Jonathan Rixen of Minneapolis, MN are happy to announce the birth of their son, Cael Cetin, January 6, 2009 at Abbott Northwestern Hospital in Minneapolis, MN. He weighed 7 lbs., 8 ozs. and was 20 inches long at the time of his birth.

Grandparents are Jim and Linda Ryan of Waukon and Jim and Debbie Rixen of Waukon. Great-grandparents are Ed and Eleanor Ryan, Marvin and Marjorie Strike, Mr. and Mrs. Robert Cetin and Walter "Red" Rixen.

Melissa and Ben Seibert of Ewa Beach, HI are happy to announce the birth of their son, Walter Bloxham, January 17, 2009 at Tripler Army Medical Center in Honolulu, HI. He weighed 8 lbs., 5 ozs. and was 19 inches long at the time of his birth. He was welcomed home by his sister, Attica (21 mos.).

Waukon boys basketball team pulls off huge comeback effort in winning two of three games

The Waukon Indian boys basketball team put together a pair of back-to-back wins, including a comeback effort for the books early this week, before finishing up the week with a 59-46 Northeast Iowa Conference loss at Charles City Friday, January 30. Prior to that road loss, the Indians secured a 67-50 non-conference win at Caledonia, MN Monday, January 26 before pulling off a double-digit comeback win at home again Waverly-Shell Rock Tuesday, January 27.

Waukon wrestling team finishes sixth at NEIC Tournament; Berns, Welsh claim runner-up honors

The Waukon Indian wrestling team competed in the Northeast Iowa Conference Tournament at Oelwein Saturday, January 31, finishing sixth in the seven-team field. The Indians recorded a pair of runner-up finishes at their middle weights, with sophomore Mitch Berns, at 145 pounds, and junior Mark Welsh, at 152, each finishing second in their respective brackets.

Waverly-Shell Rock crowned eight individual champions to cruise to the team points title.

Waukon basketball girls suffer first loss of season in battle of northeast Iowa powerhouses

Perfection for the 2008-2009 season slipped through the grasp of the Waukon Indian girls basketball team over the weekend, but remained for the Northeast Iowa Conference (NEIC) season, as the Tribe split a pair of back-to-back contests. The Indians continued to take care of business in NEIC play when they blasted Charles City at home Friday, January 30, 57-37, but fell victim to a troublesome inside-outside attack of Class 2A's top-ranked team, MFL/MarMac, Saturday, January 31 in falling by a 50-40 count for their first loss of this season.

Kee basketball girls' losses this week include senior captain to injury

The Kee High girls basketball team suffered through a week of three losses on the scoreboard this past week, but coupled with the first game loss of the week was the loss of senior captain Heidi Reburn to an apparent knee injury, the extent of which is still being determined. On the scoreboard, the Lady Hawks fell at Mabel-Canton, MN, 76-65, Monday, January 26, at Postville, 45-35, Tuesday, January 27, and at home against Central Elkader Friday, January 30 by a count of 38-30.

UIC wins continue to evade Kee boys basketball team

The Kee High boys basketball team came up just short in a pair of Upper Iowa Conference home contests this past week, dropping two of its last three games. The Hawks fell just a point short against Postville Monday, January 26, 40-39, and allowed Central Elkader a 42-36 victory Friday, January 30, but sandwiched a 58-48 non-conference win at DeSoto, WI Tuesday, January 27.

The 12 Waukon High School band students pictured above, under the direction of JoAnn Sherman, attended the Northeast Iowa Conference music festival January 19 in Charles City. Nine of the students, Brianne Anderson, Andrew Davis, Katie Riese, Alissa Smith, Kasey Manning, Deb Lund, Jessica Anderson, John Bartling and Sam Hoins, performed with the conference honor band and three students, Jacob Riese, Cara Collins and Trevor Diercks, performed with the conference honor orchestra on wind and percussion instruments.
