University of Iowa's Mobile Museum to visit Allamakee County; school visits and public viewing opportunities being planned for this Thursday and Friday

The University of Iowa, in cooperation with the Allamakee County Historical Society and Effigy Mounds National Monument, announces the visit of the University of Iowa’s brand-new Mobile Museum to Allamakee County this Thursday and Friday, May 29 and 30.

Jill Kistler, Julian West to square off in June 3 Primary Election for the office of Allamakee County Attorney

Voters will be heading to the polls Tuesday, June 3 to determine party winners at a number of different levels of government in this year's primary election. Polls in Allamakee County will open at 7 a.m. and close at 9 p.m. that day. Anyone unable to go to the polls that election day may vote absentee at the Allamakee County Auditor's Office in Waukon through 4 p.m. Monday, June 2. The Auditor's office will be open Saturday, May 31 from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Chief Warrant Officer, USN (Ret) James Kvam to present this year's Memorial Day address in Waukon

Chief Warrant Officer, USN (Ret) James A. Kvam will serve as featured speaker at the 2014 Memorial Day Observance Program being held at Oakland Cemetery in Waukon Monday, May 26. He is the husband of the former Ann Sivesind of Waukon.
Monday’s program at Oakland Cemetery in Waukon will commence following the traditional parade that begins at 9:45 a.m. in front of the Allamakee County Courthouse and marches its way to the cemetery. In the event of rain, the program will be held at the Waukon Banquet Center.

Thunder in the Park scheduled to return June 13-15

“Thunder in the Park,” the Civil War battle reenactment that debuted in the area in June of last year, returns to Allamakee County this year, providing an opportunity to experience a bit of American history. The event will be held in the Waukon City Park June 13-15. Saturday and Sunday admission is free to the public, and all are welcome to attend. (Free-will donations will be accepted and applied to expenses of future events.)
