Allamakee Emergency Management to conduct tornado drill Wednesday

Allamakee County Emergency Management will be conducting a tornado drill in accordance with the Statewide Tornado Drill Wednesday, March 26, weather permitting. Allamakee County communities will be sounding sirens for the public to practice their safety plans if a tornado warning should be issued.
The drill will be conducted from 10-11 a.m. Wednesday. A Tornado Watch will be issued at 10 a.m. and a Tornado Warning will go out from the National Weather Service at 10:20 a.m. The National Weather Service will be using Emergency Alert System and NOAA weather radio.

Rep. Patti Ruff, Senator Mike Breitbach listen to area concerns

About 20 people attended a listening post Saturday, March 15 at the Allamakee County Farm Bureau building in Waukon hosted by State Representative Patti Ruff and State Senator Mike Breitbach. Rep. Ruff said she is hopeful Waukon may be able to benefit from some one-time flood-mitigation funds to help offset the cost of the city's sewer project.

Coaching tenure for Gene Klinge comes to an end

The coaching tenure of Waukon girls basketball coach Gene Klinge was officially brought to an end this past Monday, March 17 when Klinge submitted his resignation as varsity girls basketball head coach at Waukon High School. The resignation came after Klinge reportedly had learned his contract for the position would not be renewed, a decision the school district has not commented further upon.

Three area young ladies vying for 2014 Allamakee County Dairy Princess crown at Saturday's banquet

The 2014 Allamakee County Dairy Banquet will be held this Saturday, March 22 at the Allamakee County Fairgrounds Pavilion in Waukon. The meal will be served from 7-8:30 p.m. with the program starting at 8 p.m.
The annual celebration recognizes the importance of the dairy industry in Allamakee County and the contributions dairy families make to this important industry. Every year, top producers from the county are recognized at the banquet. In addition, several other awards are presented that evening, some of which include the following:

Rep. Ruff to hold listening post in Waukon this Saturday

State Representative Patti Ruff of McGregor is hosting a listening post public forum at the Allamakee County Farm Bureau building in Waukon Saturday, March 15 at 11 a.m. to gather input from local residents in regard to legislation in the Iowa House of Representatives. Those who are unable to attend the listening post but would like to share their ideas are asked to contact Rep. Ruff directly at Patti.Ruff@legis.iowa.gov or by phone at 515-281-3221 at the Capitol during the week.

St. Patrick's Day Parade, other family events taking place this Sunday, March 16

The annual St. Patrick's Day Parade in Waukon is taking place this Sunday, March 16. The event will begin at 1 p.m. with many of the same festivities taking place as in years past throughout the community.
