Jury finds Christopher Thompson guilty of second degree murder

Guilty of second degree murder was the verdict delivered by the jury Friday morning, November 18 in the murder trial of Christopher Thompson of rural Monona held at the Allamakee County Courthouse last week. Thompson was standing trial for first degree murder in the October 2, 2010 shooting death of his live-in girlfriend, Angela Marie Gabel, with the difference between first and second degree murder - and the verdict - lying within intent.

Voters approve hotel/motel tax in Waukon, change in funding rates in Waterville

Voters in the communities of Allamakee County had little, if any, choice to make in electing candidates to their respective seats in the Tuesday, November 8 City Elections, as none of the five mayor seats, 22 city council positions nor four other official positions on the ballots featured a contested race.

Gunshot wound claims Dorchester man

Sunday morning, November 13 at approximately 7:10 a.m., the Allamakee County Sheriff's Office responded to 168 Jahnke Drive near Dorchester for a report of a male who had suffered a gunshot wound.
Upon the arrival of medical and law enforcement personnel, Lyle Richard Jahnke, age 47, of Dorchester was found unresponsive at the scene. Jahnke had suffered what is considered to be an accidental gunshot wound and was pronounced dead at the scene. No foul play is suspected.
Assisting at the scene of the incident was the Spring Grove, MN Ambulance Service.

Bomb threat being investigated at Waukon High School

Administrators in the Allamakee Community School District (ACSD) have reported that Thursday evening, November 10 a message was discovered written on the boy’s bathroom wall in the north hallway of Waukon High School. The message stated “bomb is going off 11/21/11”.
